Sideyard Coffee: October 10 - Costa Ricca Tarrazu
Hello Sideyard Friends,
Tomorrow morning I'll be trying to complete a very unofficial marathon with the Oak Park Runners Club, so coffee deliveries are a day ahead of schedule this week (check your mailboxes and stoops)!
This week's coffee comes to us from a farm in the Tarrazu region of Costa Rica. The farm sits at roughly 1900m/6,000ft above sea level and this high elevation is often correlated with more pronounced and distinct varietal flavors. At high altitudes between 30 degrees north and south of the equator, growing conditions (such as well-drained and fertile soil, consistent average temperatures, and abundant sunlight) tend to be more favorable.
As for flavor profile, I'm tasting a well-balanced and rounded cup, where no individual note jumps out above the rest. In other words, it's the opposite of some of the wildly fruity natural process coffees from Ethiopia or the Sumatra we had a month ago. If you give it a good slurp, you might find some chocolate bittersweet notes and some softer fruit flavors.
cheers,
Ryan
