Sideyard Coffee: November 20 - India 🇮🇳
Dear Sideyard Friends,
Please check your porches or mailboxes if you're expecting coffee this week!
This week's origin is another new one for me. Until a few months ago I had no idea that coffee is cultivated in southern India. According to lore, a 16th century Sufi named Baba Budan smuggled seven coffee seeds out of Arabia in his beard. The seeds were planted near modern day Mysore and the rest is history. Mysore is the same region that this week's coffee is from. The full name is India Mysore Nuggets. Like the 'A/AA' naming  convention in other regions, 'nuggets' simply indicates, large, premium beans.Â
Alongside decent body and moderate acidity, you can look for some spicy overtones that come from the cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves grown alongside the coffee shrub plants.Â
Cheers,
Ryan
