Sideyard Coffee: November 18 & 25 - Java Wet Hulled 🇮🇩 + Uganda Natural 🇺🇬
Hello Sideyard Friends,
To avoid Thanksgiving delivery complications, this week we roasted and delivered this week's and next week's coffees. The two coffees are a wet hulled Java and a natural Uganda. They're both deliciously funky, but in their own unique ways. The Uganda is fruit-forward and big on natural processing notes. I'm tasting strawberry and honey in the brighter parts, and something figgy in the darker/funkier bits. The Java has big body, and a characteristically Indonesian earthy/woodsy quality, followed by orange bitters and rustic cocoa. The Java definitely opens up more in the aftertaste and as the cup cools.
I've been alternating between these two over the past couple days and with each one I think "this one wins... clearly." Not that it's a competition... but I'd love to know which one you're favoring! Â
I find myself wanting to sing along to both of the origin tracks, but speaking neither Javanese nor Luganda means I'll have to settle for dancing. The Ugandan recommendation comes from a 1960's dance music compilation and the Java rec is even more danceable (it's from the 80's after all). Both only on Youtube again, alas.
Uganda: Fumbria Abaana (1964) - Kawaliwa & Mary w. the AGS Boys
Java: Leo Waldy - Kehidupan Kota
Happy Thanksgiving! As always, we're thankful for your support!Â
Cheers,
Ryan
p.s. The next coffee lands December 2! If you need an extra bag to tide you over until then, we have a couple extras from each of these roasts as well as from last week's Costa Rica.Â
