Sideyard Coffee: January 29 - Guatemala 🇬🇹 🍒🍫
Hello Sideyard Friends,
First off, welcome to all the new folks coming from the South Oak Park Neighbors Facebook group who are trying out Sideyard coffee this week! 90% of the coffee we roast gets delivered by bike to neighbors in south Oak Park, so it's no exaggeration to say that it exists for and because of you. We're thankful for your support and we hope you love the coffee.
This week we're drinking a washed process coffee from the Santa Rosa region of Guatemala. It's an area rich with volcanic soil and the valleyed climate allows the coffee cherries to mature slowly, helping to concentrate sugars in the fruit. We're tasting a cup that has moderate cherry and citrus brightness, followed by chocolate notes and nice body. It's tangier and less nutty than many Guatemalan coffees, which was a nice surprise. Overall, it strikes me as a nicely balanced everyday drinker.
The origin track recommendation for the week is Nadie Sabe by the Mexico-based Guatemalan cellist/songwriter Mabe Fratti. It's a gentle and generative composition that feels like a nice match for this coffee.
This week marks the last delivery of January. If you're a current subscriber and would like to pause deliveries or adjust your quantity for February, please let us know in the next couple days so we can update things on our end.
Cheers,
Ryan
