Sideyard Coffee: February 3 - Guatemala 🇬🇹 Huehuetenango Organic
Hello Sideyard Friends,
This week's coffee is from the remote Huehuetenango region of Guatemala. The region has ideal growing and processing conditions for coffee including mountainous elevation, mineral rich soils, dry winds, and plenty of rivers and streams (which makes it easier to locate processing stations).
Typical flavor notes for HueHue (pronounced "weh weh") coffees include chocolate, brown sugar, and nuttiness. This particular lot has the first two notes in spades, but trades nut flavors for a dark berry note. It has smooth body, moderate acidity, and a dark chocolate roast edge that opens into a sweet finish. I tend to think about coffees from Guatemala as being dependable and solid but not as exciting as, say, an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe or Guji. This one breaks that mold. It's complex enough to be interesting but chilled out enough that I could drink it for weeks on end.
The origin track recommendation for the week is the twangy and soulful Nobody's Wrong by Gaby Moreno.
Cheers,
Ryan
