Sideyard Coffee: February 25 - Brazil 🇧🇷 + March Subscriptions + Extras
Hello Sideyard Friends,
Brazil produces a whole lot of coffee and a whole lot of it (~90%) gets bought and sold as commodity coffee. The remaining 10% that breaks into the speciality coffee category often gets used in blends rather than stand alone as single origin. You could call a lot of it "coffee flavored coffee." In other words, there's nothing wrong with it, but there's nothing particularly exciting about it either. This week's coffee scored high enough at the cupping tables to justify using it as a single origin, so in the spirit of never-ending experimentation and variety, here we are with just the second Brazilian coffee we've offered in the past 18 months.
It's darker than anything we've roasted yet this year, and a little nuttier too. There's cocoa and some natural process fruitiness in the mix as well. While it's not my favorite combination of flavors, I can appreciate how different it is from the bright and berry-toned coffees that I personally can't get enough of.Â
March subscriptions start next week! If you'd like to join/pause or adjust your subscription simply reply here and we'll get everything sorted. The lineup includes Sumatra, El Salvador, Ethiopia, and an odds-n-ends blend to get us caught up on some spare green beans. We're hoping for fewer snow packed streets and slightly less frigid temps for our Friday bike deliveries. 🤞
This week's origin track is a Brazilian adaptation of the late 19th century Italian protest song Bella Ciao–a song that has become an anthem for resistance and freedom all over the world.
Cheers,
Ryan
Extras: We have two extra 12oz bags from last week's Colombia. I promised a wildly tart coffee in the tasting notes, but by early this week it had mellowed out considerably. I kind of miss those first few wildly-tart days, but the chilled out version is great too.
More than the next three highest coffee producing countries combined!
