Sideyard Coffee: August 27 - Uganda 🇺🇬
Hello Sideyard Friends,
Uganda used to be known strictly for robusta coffee, but in the last 10-15 years with the help of outside investments there has been a shift toward growing more and more arabica coffee. The washing station that processed this week's coffee from the Rwenzori region of Uganda was established with help from the company that's importing this coffee. They have longterm investments in Uganda designed to help keep small coffee farms sustainable for years to come.Â
It's tasting a tick or two darker than last week's coffee, but some parts of the flavor profile will taste familiar because it's another dry processed coffee. Notes to look for include blackberry, dark chocolate, and sugar cane. Give the ground a whiff if you're not picking up the fruited notes in the brewed cup.
Speaking of the Rwenzori region... this week's origin track is by a band that went by the name The Rwenzori's (named for the local mountain chain). It was recorded in 1974 and it slaps! Handsome Boy by The Rwenzori's.

Arabica sells for up to twice as much per kilo as robusta. All the coffee we're buying and roasting here at Sideyard is arabica, but we've all had robusta beans somewhere or other! Think Folgers, Starbucks dark roast, coffee pods at the hotel, etc...Â
