Sideyard Coffee: August 13 - Tanzania πΉπΏ peaberry π
Hi Sideyard Friends,
This week's coffee is a Tanzanian peaberry. Peaberry coffee beans result from a genetic mutation that leaves just one seed to develop (instead of the usual two) in a small percentage (~5-10%) of coffee cherries. This extra space allows them to develop a round, pea-like shape. Between their shape, and the rumor that they pack in more flavor, peaberries often command a premium for farmers and processing stations that invest the time to sort them out.Β
The grounds are overtly Β fruity and there are some fruits coming through in the brewed cup as well. Look for apple/grapefruit/melon. Overall it's a solid medium roast with creamy body and a sweet aftertaste. I look forward to seeing how the flavors develop over the coming week as it hits peak.Β
Cheers,
Ryan
