Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 + July Sabbatical + Price Increase

Hello Sideyard Friends,

This is the last roast and delivery until Friday, August 1st. We take July off for roaster maintenance and summer shenanigans. I hit skip on July subscription payments, so there’s nothing to do on your end. If you need a spare bag or two to get you through, we have a handful of assorted bags in stock (Rwanda Peaberry, Guatemala, and Papua New Guinea).

This week’s coffee is a washed process lot from Papua New Guinea. It’s a big heavy-bodied coffee with notes of fig, cocoa, plum, and roasted hazelnut. It’s making a great iced coffee.

My favorite way to make iced coffee is the Japanese method because of how it preserves the acidity and clarity of coffee. It’s also really simple and takes almost no forethought. Just substitute ice for one third to one half of your water, grind your coffee a little finer, and brew straight onto the ice with either a pour over brewer or automatic drip brewer. I’ve mostly been just letting my second cup cool down before adding ice and cream—but it’s admittedly a little flat tasting by comparison.

The origin track for the week is Walkabout Long Chinatown by The Kopy Kats. Walkabout is considered the national song of the Solomon Islands, where it was composed in the 1950s. It has a very Luther Perkins/Johnny Cash-sounding base melody thing happening. Fun song.

To help keep Sideyard sustainable, we’re increasing prices for the first time since April 2024. We’d much prefer not to, but as I’ve written about a few times recently, the cost of green coffee has been on an uphill rollercoaster this past year due to climate instability and general tariff mayhem. To that end, we’re on track to spend an average of +23% more per pound on green coffee this year than we did in 2024.

Starting August 1, 8oz bags are $13 (up from $12.50), while 12oz and 16oz bags are now $17 and $20 (up $1 each). These new prices represent a 4-6% overall increase, depending on the bag size. Here are the new subscription pricing tiers:

12oz/month: $17
12oz/every-other-week: $34
8oz/week: $52
12oz/week: $68
16oz/week: $76
20oz/week: $96

If you’d like to pause, cancel, or modify your subscription, you can login to the site at any time.

Thanks again for your support and see you in August!

Cheers,

Ryan
