Ethiopia 🇪🇹 Aba Bulgu
Hello Sideyard Friends,
This week’s roast is a delightfully complex coffee that comes to us from farmer Abdurhiman Aba Bulgu in the Duromina area of Ethiopia. The wet grounds and freshly brewed cup has an aromatic woodsy and floral note, while the cup features honey, apricot, dried berry, and a woody spice/sappy sweet finish. It’s the kind coffee that I start missing long before it’s gone. Alas, no spares this week.
The origin track for the week is Major, from Mulatu Astatke and Hoodna Orchestra’s 2024 album Tension.
Cheers,
Ryan
p.s. If you get 12oz or 16oz bags of coffee, you’ve likely noticed the new bags. If you haven’t seen one yet, just imagine what one of our normal kraft bags would look like it were swallowed by a ghost. Or floating in a really heavy fog. Our bag supplier ran out of the standard compostable brown kraft ones, so I agreed to try these white ones. Sometimes you’ve got to try something new, right? Big mistake. Not a fan.
While I’m really tempted to toss the whole box in the compost (did I mention they’re not my favorite?), that seems pretty wasteful. So unless someone has a use for 937 ghoulishly-white, compostable, tin tie bags, we’re stuck with ‘em for a while. Thanks for your patience. The offending party has been reprimanded.
