Bye-week + April Subscription Info
Hello Sideyard Friends,
It's a fifth-Friday-week, which means no coffee this week. April renewal payments will be processed Sunday night and for the first time in 18 months, subscription prices are going up a titch.
8oz bags are now $12.50 (up $0.50), and 12oz and 16oz bags are $16 and $19 respectively (up $1 each). Quantity discounts remain similar (buy more, save more 😉). Functionally, this price increase serves to ensure that we can keep sourcing fresh, high-quality specialty greens from reputable importers who care deeply about the farmers and communities they partner with.
Yesterday at my jobby job, we had a talk and lunch with the author Seth D. Kaplan. He was there to help us (faculty, staff, and students at Trinity Christian College) think about declining membership in community-based institutions has affected social and civic life in the US over the past generation or two and what we might do about it. From what I gather, his book Fragile Neighborhoods argues in favor of fostering geographically-proximate interpersonal relationships through neighborhood-scale organizations/businesses/etc. While he's neither the first to notice this problem, nor the first to call for new-urbanist-like solutions, it was a nice pragmatic reframing of the issues and a refreshing reminder of why Sideyard exists. As ever, thanks for your support.
Cheers,
Ryan (and Michael)
