Continuing a published adventure
Explore tips for customizing D&D published campaigns, grab my updated adventure, and join my online session!
I, like many other DMs, got started running campaigns using officially published D&D books. One of the most popular of these for 5th Edition is Lost Mines of Phandelver, which was in the Starter Set and also available for free on D&D Beyond.
But just like a lot of DMs my aspirations went beyond playing other people's adventures. I wanted to make my own! That can be a daunting task, so I did a bit of both with the first few campaigns I ran. I started from a published adventure and expanded on it with my own ideas, quests, characters, and locations.
In this post from my archive I broke down a few tips on doing this in any published adventure as well as some specifically for Lost Mines of Phandelver. Take a read here:
Trouble in Waterlily on DriveThruRPG
I've updated my first adventure Trouble in Waterlily and uploaded it on DriveThruRPG! It's a beginner-focus D&D 5e adventure and should also be straightforward enough for new GMs to run.
It's totally free and comes with maps and both a PDF and Markdown copy. The adventure is also still available as a web version on the sidequesters.club website.
Go grab it at DriveThruRPG!
StartPlaying One-Shot
I'm running an online session of Trouble in Waterlily on StartPlaying next week on Sunday, November 30! It's my first session on StartPlaying and I'd love for you to join!
Deck of many links
I'm getting into zine printing for some future adventures so did a test layout and print of Trouble in Waterlily in a zine format.
So this weeks links are some resources about zines!
- DIY Guide: Making a High-Quality Saddle-Stitched Zine at Home
- How To Make A TTRPG Zine!
- The Easiest 1-Page Zine You Can Make

That's all for me this week!
