**waves awkwardly**

Writing a newsletter after putting it off for oh, I don’t know, say 7 months or so, feels a lot like this:

But we dropped our July calendar of events yesterday and there’s still so many amazing things happening in the rest of this month and we’ve got the shop’s first birthday coming up in August and I’ll want your input there so… Welcome to the latest iteration of the Side Quest newsletter, I guess! (This will continue to be incredibly ad hoc and infrequent, let’s be real. I’m hoping the extremely pared-down, chill nature of Buttondown’s newsletter format will help me get past whatever weird anxiety I have about sending these, but, well. I am who I am. )

First up: June things! Pride things!

Bow Market Pride is THIS SATURDAY, and we are frankly obsessed with Rebel Rebel’s latest unhinged Pride theme of “Gay Fieri: Diners, Drive-Ins and Pride.” Impeccable. No notes. The celebration will happen 2-6, rain or shine, so come be queer with us. (We also have this incredible t-shirt in stock if you wanna pick one up ahead of time, a whole bunch of us are gonna be wearing it like some kind of weird gang of queer nerds. Which, now that I think about it, is pretty much just what we are all the time. Only on Saturday we’ll match about it.)

A black T-shirt with the title "Dungeons & Diners & Dragons & Drive-Ins & Dives," plus a classic D&D image of a red dragon with Guy Fieri's frosted-tips hair.

Then after Pride, we still have tickets for a few of our late-June events, including:

  • Our queer sci-fi book club for “Hammajang Luck” with author Makana Yamamoto (!!)

  • Our queer fantasy book club for Emily Tesh’s “The Incandescent”

  • This month’s Witch-Craft Cinema, where we’re screening “Labyrinth”

  • A game demo/live play-through for the new role-playing game “Daggerheart” (player tickets are all sold out for this, but we still have spectator tickets available! Micah, who’s running the game, does a great job of letting the spectators influence what happens, too. It’s a blast.)

And LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, the wonderful folks of Dungeons & Drag Nuns are coming to play a one-shot session of the role-playing game “Thirsty Sword Lesbians” in front of a live audience at Upstairs at Bow, and all proceeds will go to charity! Ticket sales and a mid-show raffle will go to support The Theater Offensive, whose mission is to present liberating art by, for, and about queer and trans people of color that transcends artistic boundaries, celebrates cultural abundance, and dismantles oppression. Grab your tickets to the show here!

Okay I think that’s all the June stuff.

July stuff is here on our website. It’s dope, you should check it out.

So the last thing, then, is our upcoming first birthday! You're what makes our little corner of the world special, so we wanted to hear from you (yes, YOU!) what's been great, what could be better, and what you'd like to see for our first birthday and beyond. If you have, like, three minutes to fill out this quick form, that would be super helpful! Thanks!

Okay. So. It appears we have come to the end of the newsletter. (I never know how to sign off with these things.) I guess: thank you. Thanks for putting up with the start-and-stop emails, thanks for your patience with… everything, thanks for coming along with us on this epic journey.

We love you!
