Next Wednesday, September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. I’ve marked the events in the upcoming week that honour this day with a 🧡. If you’ve never done so, I would recommend reading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Nine thousand people rallied in Toronto yesterday to demand support for Grassy Narrows over the mercury poisoning crisis, which only shows how far we still have to go.

U of T Trash Team - The Urban Litter Challenge brings volunteers together across Toronto to remove litter from local parks and help prevent it from entering Lake Ontario. Volunteers also record what they find, contributing to the Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup and International Coastal Cleanup.

Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition - A 21 km ride on the Scarborough Link to highlight the need to "close the gaps" in this multi-use trail to create a continuous, off-street, hiking and biking trail to connect Scarborough and the rest of Toronto. This will be a family friendly recreational ride but all riders should be capable of peddling 21 kilometres.

Yellowhead Institute - In less than one year, the largest archive of survivor testimony on residential schools is set to be destroyed by order of the Supreme Court of Canada. In the context of rising residential school denialism, this Yellowhead Fire, in collaboration with the Indian Residential School Records Project, is an important conversation at a critical juncture.

Workers Alliance GTA - This workshop will introduce the strategy and history of salting, while focusing on the practical work of building trust, identifying shared grievances, having organizing conversations, and mobilizing towards collective action. We’ll also consider the risks and responsibilities involved in organizing at work, and how individual workplace struggles can become part of a broader labour movement.

CUPE 3903 Palestine Solidarity - Learn about York University's structure and governance, and how we can use these to take back our university!
