Show Up Toronto - September 16, 2025

Hi friends and neighbours,

Great job chasing racists out of Christie Pits this past Saturday. Wanna do it again? This upcoming Saturday (Sept 20th) is Draw The Line, a series of mobilizations across Canada to demand that the Canadian government pick a side: injustice, violence, and climate destruction, or a just and safe future for all of us. We can't keep cutting public services while billionaires profit.

Hundreds of groups across Canada have signed on to endorse this, including dozens in Toronto, who will all be converging on Yonge Dundas Square at 2pm. Will I see you there?

Showing up is a muscle like any other, so thanks for getting your reps in.

Jenny

Take action: More than 10,000 full-time college support staff are on strike as of last Thursday after months of bargaining with the College Employer Council. Support staff work across the college system to support students in roles like disability services, IT, facilities and trade, student success coordination, employment support, IT and food services, and so on. Over 10,000 faculty and staff have been laid off in the past year and over 650 programs have been cut, and this round of bargaining includes demands for an increase in provincial funding, AI protections, and a moratorium on campus closures to protect students. It may not be obvious from the outside, but going on strike is really rough for workers - you lose a significant portion if not all of your income, you're fighting an enemy with significantly more institutional power than you in a media environment that is often deeply hostile to labour, you're standing on a picket line all day and potentially getting into confrontations, and the uncertainty grows every day. Find a picket line this week and go show these college workers some love and support.
