Hi friends and neighbours,
This week I've got a couple of timely calls for volunteering to highlight. The LGBTQ Youthline is a great Ontario-wide peer support helpline, and they're looking for additional volunteers aged 16-29. Applications close August 3rd. I'm reliably informed by the young people in my life that The Youth™ do not do email, but perhaps you know a youth you could pass this onto?
Also, the Disability Arts Collective is a cool disability-led multidisciplinary arts organization in Toronto, and their landmark Disability Arts Festival is returning the second weekend of August. They're still looking for volunteers for both August 8th and 9th to help support the festival!
The wildfires are still raging, and this is the most complete list of groups that are looking for and offering support that I could find. You can also give direct mutual aid to a displaced family looking for support.

Kidical Mass is an international movement for child- and cycling-friendly cities. These rides are an all-ages, all-abilities celebration of cycling that highlights the need for healthier, safer streets.
9:45AM — Trash Trap Dive (Marina Quay West)
U of T Trash Team - Last year, the University of Toronto (U of T) Trash Team’s Fighting Floatables program removed 525 kg of plastic pollution from the Toronto Harbour, including nearly 150,000 pieces of plastic. Come learn how litter is diverted from Lake Ontario with trash traps and get a hands-on experience!
10AM — GROR Toronto Summer Ride (Hoskin Avenue at Queen's Park Crescent)
Gaza Sunbirds - Join GROR for their Toronto Summer Ride, and for the people of Palestine.
They will take to the streets promptly at 10:30 AM following a talk from Eglinton-Lawrence & Don Valley for Palestine about their organization’s work and direct action on the ground in Palestine.

Kensington Market Community Land Trust - A PWYC walking tour led by local business owner and drum educator Saikou Saho, ending with a drumming workshop at African drums And Art Crafts. Register to save your spot and help the KMCLT keep the market diverse, accessible, and rooted in local history.

Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition - Learn basic bike maintenance skills and how to use BikeShare Toronto.

Repair Cafe Toronto - The primary focus of this event is on repairing accessibility devices such as Perkins braillers, white canes, electronic magnifiers, talking and braille watches, and sewing-related repairs. The Repair Café does not charge for repairs, it is free!
11AM — Community Drive (Two locations (Portland & Adelaide and David Crombie Park))
Toronto Centre and Spadina-Fort York for Palestine - The Watermelon Squared Community Drive returns to raise funds for mutual aid! Proceeds from treats, handmade items, books, curiosities and other unique finds will go to a retired teacher in Gaza who has been living in displacement, as well as First Nations communities that have been recently displaced by wildfire.
12PM — Latinx Community BBQ (Christie Pits Park)
Workers Action Centre - Come join this 2026 Latinx BBQ! There will be games, raffles, delicious food, and you will celebrate soccer as a form of popular resistance. Everyone is cordially invited!
1PM — Fight Ford Protest (Queen's Park)
Protest Doug Ford - Doug Ford has been selling off our province for parts for years and he has consistently shown he’s not on the people’s side. It’s time to stand up for our rights and for those who cannot. Come to Queen’s Park to get loud!
1PM — Ontario: Repeal Bill 5; Fight for your future! (Ontario Legislature)
When the World Stops - Join this event to fight against the Bill 5.

5PM — The Good Fight - Remembering the Spanish Civil War (TBA)
ELDV for Palestine - 2026 marks the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War and the International Brigades. Honour those who lost their lives in the fight against fascism while examining how Western governments have supported fascist regimes throughout history and continue to do so today with a documentary screening, panel discussion, and more. Proceeds support a family currently in Gaza.

Tech Worker's Coalition Canada - Drop by for a virtual coffee hour on Sunday mornings to chat with fellow tech workers about what’s on your mind and to learn more about the Tech Worker’s Coalition. Whether you are a gig worker, data labeler, designer, software engineer, or content moderator, labour solidarity for all!

No Jets TO - Our waterfront is under direct threat. The expansion of the Toronto Island Airport means commercial jets roaring overhead and more air pollution settling over our neighbourhoods. This march & rally is to say NO to jets on Toronto’s waterfront!

Davenport 4 Palestine - Daveport 4 Palestine invites you to come hang out at Gaza square on Sunday mornings with hot chocolate and coffee, buttons and posters, lawn signs and colourful chalk. Come say hi and meet your fellow neighbours/organizers as they make their presence known and continue to build safety in their community!

This webinar examines these violations in the context of both international and Canadian law.
