SUBMITTED FOR YOUR APPROVAL: "The Last Spiderbox", a/k/a THE YEAR IN SELF-PROMO REX with bonus reading material for your perusal

December has been and January promises to be an absolutely bonkers couple of months, so I’m calling an audible and will be skimping on the newsletter in December and double up at the end of January if that’s all right with everyone

As penance, i’m sharing my story “The Last Spiderbox”, which was previously only available to read in Cosmic Horror Monthly #58. It’s up now on my website for a limited time in case anyone wants to check it out.

An excerpt from the short story "The Last Spiderbox" by NM Whitley which reads:One day I raised my hand in class and asked: what happens to our thoughts when we are thinking of something else? Was there something left over, some electrochemical residue of those microphenomena passing through those electrodes, some surplus that never made its way to our friends the spiders but rather escaped, or was employed to some other end that was not the beautification, the betterment, of the world around us?

While you are at it there is other stuff of mine that became available to the public in the year 2025 and which you can also read, such as:

  • “The Skullhole Panic”, which escaped from behind the paywall following the sad demise of Gamut magazine, almost a year ago now, back in January 2025

  • “Enselfening”, which appeared in issue #125 of The Dark (October 2025). After many years and much rejection, it was an immensely gratifying experience for a story of mine to appear in such an esteemed publication and I hope tons and tons read it, and everything else they publish

stay tuned for the year-in-review post which will be going ahead as planned later this month. i’m gonna make a spreadsheet with pivot tables and everything, it’s gonna be buckwild
