🌱 Welcoming ⁨Kēnya & Bobbie to the steering committee

Hello friends, we’ve grown the Steering Committee with two new members: ⁨Kēnya and Bobbie. We had an awesome onboarding experience with them last Friday where we connected and started thinking about how we make decisions, the work ahead, and how subcommittees might work. We are also starting free community coworking and evening work parties on Thursdays starting September 29th!

What’s New

  • 🔨 Get ready for Thursday evening jam sessions (and more). This is going to be the place to plug in and work on Shared Ground. If you want to shape the future of this project and learn something new be sure to show up Thursdays starting September 29th.

  • 💻 Open coworking time will be starting next week, drop in 10 - 5 pm on Thursday!

  • 🎊 We are on track to sign the lease on October 1st!

Events Coming Up

  • Mondays 6:15 pm – Honeycomb Healing Monday evening Movement Medicine classes! Classes are by donation, happening 6:15 - 7:30 pm on Mondays, and consist of yoga and other forms of embodied healing movement. Feel free to drop in and try it out by donation!

  • Sunday, Oct 9th (tentative) – Save the date, we’ll be doing our first space work day. Do you want to get your hands dirty, help clean up, and build out the space? Come to our Sunday work day.

Thursday is the day to plug into Shared Ground! We are hosting open coworking time from 10 am - 5 pm every Thursday. Then, in the evenings from 7 - 9 pm, we’ll have community time to work on the project and connect with each other.

Come this Thursday, September 29th (7 - 9 pm) for the first work day where we’ll brainstorm how to fundraise for the project.

If you want to get involved Thursdays are going to be the best time to do it.

October 6th will be our first community connection cafe, come meet other folks and play some connection games with your community. Details to come.

Meet the Steering Committee

Kēnya

After becoming a mother at 17, I moved to Colorado in 2012 as an act of survival. I was introduced to the term “permaculture” in 2014 and eventually embedded myself in communities of BIPOC earth workers and creatives. I live in Wheat Ridge where I grow and raise sheep, ducks, chickens, herbs, and heirloom food varieties, and host community meals and gatherings.

Bobbie

I live in Denver with my husband Dennis, 2 young sons, and 6 laying hens. I love growing food in my backyard, roller skating indoors and out, and putting my shoulder to the wheel of climate justice. I am lit up by projects that simultaneously advance social equity and reverse carbon emissions. I bring a decade of experience in the Colorado climate movement, professional experience in federal, state, and local government, and an environmental law degree. Joining the Shared Ground team feels like a dream come true!

Thanks, y’all! We’ll introduce you to the other Steering Committee members in future newsletters.
