๐ Membership Launch and more! ๐
March in Denver means balance; balance of warm, sunny days with days of sub-freezing snow storms and surprise flurries; balance in celebrations of our wins while staying focused on the work at hand; and balance of the needs of our communities with the needs of our own body, our own mind, our own spirit.
March is Womenโs History Month. We recognize that the colonial gendered concept of a woman was created to be a contrast to the concept of a man, what we know today as the gender binary. We also know the experience of being a woman is profoundly more than that. Women, and people raised to be women, produce the majority of labor worldwide, and receive a fraction (if any) of the gratitude, recognition, and compensation that cis men are afforded for the same work. This gets exponentially more true with women- and people-of-color, trans women and nonbinary people, those without wealth, those with chronic illnesses and disabilities, those enslaved within the prison industrial complex, and those born without government paperwork and identification.
This March, we recognize the ingenuity and labor of women and non-men in our communities by compensating equitably, by taking on the burden of education for ourselves, by elevating women and non-men into leadership roles and positions of decision-making, and by initiating ways to ease labor from women and non-men (like volunteering and investing your time and energy into your local community!)

๐ Welcome to the marketing committee, Lior!
Our marketing and external communications team is growing! Lior joined us this month to help with writing our monthly newsletters (the one youโre reading now!). We are very excited to have them on board and helping us expand our capacities as a community. Lior has been independently writing poetry, music and non-fiction for over a decade, and has recently expanded to writing short stories and fiction (read more of their work under their pen name, Rae L Ellis, here). After leaving their indie music career and harm reduction community in Phoenix, Lior moved to Denver in 2020 and has been working with Denverโs chapter of Food Not Bombs for over a year doing behind-the-scenes work in marketing, social media, volunteer outreach, and operations. They advocate for disability rights wherever they go and add valuable perspective to our community. Lior is a self-proclaimed โneurospicyโ and all-around artist/writer/musician/painter/wannabe-chef currently working on writing their first book.
Be sure to check out their self-produced music at raenotlydia.com (or any streaming site), keep up with their newly created music and book progress at patreon.com/raenotlydia, and find them at a Sunday Cooking Party with Denver Food Not Bombs.
:)
Thanks for reading and being a part of our community!
