πŸ‘€ Behind the Scenes

After assessing input from our members and reviewing thoughts from the community about our next moves, we are excited to announce some big decisions! As our steering committee and operations team reviewed our strengths and weaknesses of the past year, capacities were discussed and acceptances were made. Most importantly, we came to the conclusion that our most successful and impactful days at Shared Ground were our BIPOC-centered Saturdays.

The original idea to center People of Color on Saturdays was proposed and organized by one of our steering committee members; a Black-queer woman who volunteered countless unpaid hours of their time and love into Shared Ground. The culture on Saturdays was not exclusive, but one that was truly inclusive by the inherent nature of the BIPOC community who hosted artist marketplaces, healing spaces, ritual circles, lazy art days, gardening workshops, om chanting gatherings, and many other unique community strengthening moments in the space.

As we wrapped up our belongings and moved out of the church building, we recieved a special proposal from the same steering committee member who designed BIPOC-centered Saturdays. Upon reviewing her proposal and reminding ourselves of our ethics and principles as a climate and community resilience sanctuary, we made a unanimous decision!

πŸ¦‹ Metamorphosis

In the early stages of Shared Ground, we intentionally designed for shifts in leadership to be a naturally occurring part of how Shared Ground operates. For this and many other reasons, we are proud to transition into a Black-owned and BIPOC-led, impact and community driven business!

Knowing that the social and climate crises we live in are directly linked to the continuous devaluation and removal of People of Color from access to land/nature/space, this transition makes sense and inspires our hearts and hopes for the future. Our new leaders and stewards are deeply passionate about carrying on the mission to build capacity within our local communities to address these issues. People of Color patiently continue to teach us about resilience, liberation, and communal love. It's time we listen up and let them lead!

We can’t wait to learn more from these amazing community organizers, land stewards, and regenerative thinkers who are stepping up to embrace leadership roles. We hope that all of our current and new members continue to participate in, support, and uplift Shared Ground with love and respect!
