🌱 Building, Growing, and Becoming 🌱

Happy Black History Month beloved community,

This month, we encourage you to remember that the majority of the work involved in climate and community resilience is done by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). Black folx continuously put in high quality, high quantity, and often (still) unpaid labor for the betterment of all life. As devoted land stewards and leaders in resilience, past, present, and future Black people are Black history.

Come show your support for the Denver-area Black community by shopping at the Winter Black Market, hosted by Potted Peace Project (led by SG steering committee member, Kēnya), at Shared Ground on February 11th from 7pm-10pm.

Local Black-led projects to support year-round:

Potted Peace Project gives free houseplants to BIPOC, hosts the Black Market (local Black creatives sell goods and keep 100% of their profits), and builds BIPOC community resilience by connecting through plant love.

Soul2Soul Sisters is a non-profit org offering programs for Black women’s healing and health, reparations, Black voter engagement, and ending anti-Black racism.

Denver Black Queer Collective provides a protective, supportive, and uplifting space for queer Black people in the Denver area.

5280 Freedom School a new elementary school in Denver, centering Black children, where Black history is taught and Black minds matter!

Shades of Honey “the peoples mic” centers BIPOC performers, writers, poets, and storytellers.

🎉 Welcome to the Events Committee, Alex!

Our event calendar at Shared Ground is thriving! Last month we shared an opportunity to join our team via the role of events coordinator and we are thrilled to announce that we have enlisted community member Alex to fill that role. With a background in this type of work and a passion to support our mission, she is already doing a spectacular job. Managing the event applications and all of the coordination that goes into ensuring things run smoothly for our wonderful event hosts takes a huge load off of our steering committee’s overwhelmingly full plate. If you are a current or future event host at Shared Ground, look forward to connecting and communicating with Alex!

Thanks for reading and being a part of our community!
