Sewing Circle: Protests 4/19, Working Out What To Do Next

I’m thrilled by just how huge the protests on 4/5 were. In Waltham alone the attendance was more than double what I expected, with Indivisible Waltham counting over 850 attendees. In Boston it was tens of thousands, filling the streets from the Common to City Hall. All over the country, millions - literally millions - of people stood up and said Hands Off.

With the 250th anniversary of the Shot Heard Round the World coming up at Concord and Lexington, there are a number of protests scheduled for Saturday April 19:

Indivisible Waltham will be on the Common from 11-12:30.

A protest specific to the gutting of the National Parks and firing Park Rangers will be at Concord’s Minuteman National Park - time TBD.

Lexington Alarm! is protesting at the Battle Green on the Bedford Street side, starting at 11am.

Indivisible Worcester is protesting from 11-1 at the overpass near 43 Belmont Street.

Beyond those, Mobilize.us is showing many other April 19th protests across the country.

Energized by the protests but don’t know where to direct that energy? Read through Choose Democracy’s “What Can I Do to Fight this Coup?” or Mariame Kabas’ “Making a Plan” zine to think about what, where, and how much you can help. Or print up some copies of the Massachusetts-specific version of Guante’s “I Didn’t Believe in the Fight - The Fight Made Me A Believer” zine. Or find a local mutual aid group and see how you can help those nearby.

And of course, calling your reps and senators (especially now with the budget, SAVE act, and tariff messes) is a vital and quick action to take. Using the 5calls app makes it easy, including a script if you don’t know what to say.

There’s a lot moving at high speed right now, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But if there’s one thing that last weekend taught us, it’s that We Are Not Alone.
