Sewing Circle: No Kings - 2400 and counting
A week from today, over two thousand No Kings protests will take place across the USA. 30% are in red states. Dozens of groups, from Indivisible to the ACLU to the Interfaith Alliance, are working to make this the biggest day of protest since 1970’s Earth Day. It’s huge, and it’s getting bigger.
And I think it’s starting to scare the regime.
Good.
You can find an event here or here.
Be aware of the timing for each rally; Waltham’s 10:30am event, for example, wraps up a half hour before our homecoming parade, and the main rally in Boston is from noon to three.
The ACLU has a guide on knowing your rights as a protester. Beautiful Trouble has a toolkit for de-escalation and intervention. Human Rights Campaign has preparedness and safety tips.
As an aside: If you’re feeling discouraged about whether small actions make a difference, I was directed to this meta-analysis from the journal Science. It shows that not only do conservation actions have an actual impact on preserving or increasing biodiversity, having multiple types of actions is vital.
There isn’t one magic wand to wave, one single day of protest (or voting), or one clear policy that will on its own instantly create a change. Instead, there are hundreds of small actions, each tackling something different, that together build up to a shift. Many small steps, taken together; and remember: You are Not Alone.
