Sewing Circle: Back Again and Postcard Afternoon
Hello all and welcome back to the Sewing Circle!
I’ve resurrected the Sewing Circle and Resistance Society emails after a four-month hiatus and the demise of Tinyletter. You can unsubscribe using the link in the footer at any time.
With the election looming six months away and various crises and sorrows compounding, I am finding it more important than ever to Find A Thing I Can Do. So I’m focusing my efforts on voter turnout and election support - not because it’s the only urgent thing out there, but because choosing one area to focus on helps keep me from overwhelm. And (as usual) I’m starting with postcards.
So come join me! On Memorial Day (May 27), I’ll be hosting a postcard writing gathering in Waltham at 50 Leonard Street from 3-4:30. I’ll provide postcards, pens, stamps, text and mailing lists, plus some refreshments. You provide the writing hand! RSVPs appreciated.
Right now, it’s 160ish days until mid-October, which I’m using as a mailing deadline. I’ve committed to writing five postcards or letters a day from now until then. I’m dividing my efforts between Postcards to Voters (currently running a campaign for Georgia Supreme Court candidate John Barrow), Postcards to Swing States, and Vote Forward.
Over the next few months, I’ll keep sharing opportunities to act. Most but not all will focus on election / voter / mobilization efforts. If I learn about rallies and protests I’ll share the news. And I’ll always add three pieces of good news - real progress gained through the steady work of many people. For example:
The pilot free tax filing program from the IRS has been a success.
And carbon emissions in Europe are declining fast.
Each of these is a small step to greater progress, and each of them took many small steps to accomplish. Call your reps (US: (202) 224-3121 MA: https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator), choose your steps, and remember: You are Not Alone.
