Sewing Circle: Harris Takes the Stage
I admit to being somewhat overwhelmed with the speed at which our political landscape is changing from day to day. It’s as if everything has been flipped upside down, and there’s a definite change in the air.
It feels like a shift from determination to enthusiasm, for one. After Sunday’s announcement from Biden, Harris broke records with her fundraising. Over $100 million dollars were donated to her campaign in the first 48 hours of her candidacy- with many of those donations coming from first-time small donors!
There’s an equally large increase in people wanting to volunteer for her campaign. My first recommendation for action is to either join those donors in giving to the Harris campaign, or to sign up as a campaign volunteer.
That push to action is being felt in many places. Postcards to Swing States has had to pause signups until August 1st because they’re so overwhelmed with volunteers. Vote Forward is up to 2.6 million letters stockpiled for the election. I have stacks of postcards and addresses for anyone who wants them.
If postcarding isn’t your thing, Red2Blue is running a number of phonebanking sessions - and these are NOT fundraising. Instead, Red2Blue is contacting PA Democrats who voted in the primary, but whose primary ballots weren’t counted (due to errors or lateness or other issues) to help them fix those issues before November. They’re also calling recently registered Pennsylvanians to confirm they’ve received their voter registration cards and to urge them to vote. It’s a targeted, direct GOTV effort that can have great effects.
Up and down the ballot, from House races to President to ballot questions, we need turnout and support. So every step counts, and every bit of assistance helps.
The Montana ballot initiative on abortion is likely to be included on the November ballot.
Every country worldwide has banned the use of leaded gasoline in cars.
Over 80% of all new energy production capacity (power plants, that is) in 2023 was renewable energy.
We’re energized to a new degree, and we’re more than capable of making great changes together. Take your steps to make those changes happen, and remember: You are Not Alone.
