Sewing Circle: 4/19 and 4/21 Protests, MA Anti-Trans Bill

The next round of protests is happening this Saturday, April 19th. So far, over 600 are scheduled for around the country.

In Waltham, it’s being organized by Indivisible Waltham and will be 11-12:30 on the Common. More information here.

There’s one in Wellesley from 10:30-11:30, one in Framingham from 11-1, and one in Worcester from 11-1. Plus hundreds more across the country, and the ongoing Tesla Takedowns at every Tesla dealership.

On Marathon Monday, there will be a Patriot’s Day rally in Concord, starting at the First Parish UU Church at 10:30am with speakers at 11.

I’ve also learned about an anti-trans measure that went into the MA House budget, which was then approved by the House. It’s been amended to “require research” before any kind of implementation would be considered. I’ve seen conflicting reports on whether that move was a successful use of House procedures to effectively kill the measure, or whether it was a cowardly tactic that grants legitimacy to transphobia.

Either way, it should have been a slam-dunk NOPE from our legislature. Our House reps should hear about it. Find your rep, ask about their positions on Amendments #81 and #81.1 to H.4005 (respectively, the anti-trans measure and the send-it-to-research addition), and let them know what you think.

I’ll keep you posted about upcoming protests and actions, and though I can’t attend this Saturday’s rally I will be cheering for you. Keep standing up and speaking out, and remember: You are Not Alone.
