Selce Crowdfunder 🔜 Deadline, Impact Report, Greenwich Solar Flats💡

Selce Newsletter Selce Newsletter

Hi

In case you haven’t already heard, our energy advice service is facing cutbacks due to a funding gap in January.

If you’re able to, please consider donating to Selce’s crowdfunder - the first in our 11 year history. Sharing it with friends and family would also be greatly appreciated.

In this month’s newsletter, we have details of an upcoming share offer, an opportunity for shared solar on flats in Greenwich, our Impact Report for 2024-5 and more.

The Selce team will (mostly) be taking a well earned break from 20th December to 4th January - our energy advice team will have someone available by phone for emergencies throughout the period, though services will be limited.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday and a restful break.

- Giovanna.

Selce’s 2nd LED Lighting Share Offer Imminent

You’re the first to hear this - we will also be launching a new share offer in January - our second to cover LED lighting - at a school in Lewisham.

Why do we do LED lighting for schools & community buildings?

  • LEDs result in a ~70% cut in energy use for lighting, significant carbon savings, as well as improved well-being for students and staff.

  • LEDs can be installed without many of the planning challenges which can affect solar.

  • The results may surprise you: looking at two previous examples, LEDs are now saving Waterside Academy £8,500 per year. For Edmund Waller Primary in Lewisham, the saving is an amazing £19,426 per year.

  • Interested in investing? Get in touch here for advance notice of when we go live.

Want Shared Solar on Your Flats in Greenwich? Be Part of Our Application!

If you live in a flat in Greenwich, have you ever wanted solar power, but found it too tricky to get off the ground?

The technology now exists to split the energy from a single rooftop solar system and divide it between multiple dwellings.

Whether you rent, own, in council or social housing, get in touch with Debbie [debbie@selce.org.uk], our renewable energy projects manager to find out more and join us in applying to the Greenwich Community Energy Fund for full feasibility works for your building!

Do get in touch by emailing Debbie ASAP. Submissions close very soon!

Citizen Scientist Role - Part-Time Paid Role in Lewisham Jan-March 2026

Together with Lewisham Council, we’re working on an exciting project to understand how housing retrofit (home improvements such as insulation, ventilation or renewable energy) affects people’s everyday lives.

We’re looking for local residents to help us learn by talking to neighbours, visiting homes, and sharing stories about living through retrofit works – to be a retrofit citizen scientist. (Don’t let the title put you off, no previous experience required!)

This is a 3 day a week role, paid at Living Wage, from Jan-March 2026 - the deadline is very soon - on 20 December! If you’re interested, you just need to email a CV and short covering letter to Katherin - but first, please see full details under ‘retrofit citizen scientist’ on this page.

We are Seeking Volunteer Trustees - Could This Be You?

Our Board of Directors is looking to establish a new independent charity focused on fuel poverty alleviation. We are looking for at least two founder trustees to help us register and set up the charity and who will eventually become trustees on the board - find out more - the deadline is 5 January.
