"Engines off... don't make us cough!"
Join the Pollution Patrol this weekend!
This Saturday 9th November in Lewisham, Selce is working with Climate Action Lewisham, Catford Clean Air and Clean Air for SE23 to raise awareness about air quality and engine idling.
Support our campaign by joining the photo shoot, and handing out friendly, informative leaflets to cars with their engines idling, on how they can create a healthier community and save money by switching their cars off when waiting.
Here are the details:
- Saturday 9th November, 1pm, meeting outside Lewisham Arthouse, 140 Lewisham Way, SE14 6DP
- Children welcome (must be accompanied by adults)
- Clothing should be warm, comfortable and colourful
- Friendly smiles appreciated!
This campaign is kindly supported by Climate Action Lewisham, Clean Air for Catford and Clean Air for SE23
The idea and aim We want to improve local air quality through a reduction in engine idling and, in the broader context, we want to further reduce climate-changing greenhouse gases by increasing the amount of solar energy in use in SE London. Our third share offer is now open, raising £260,000 to fund solar panels on 4 new sites - find out more here.
Group photo We’ll start off with a group photo outside the Lewisham Art House on Lewisham Way at 1pm, holding our "engines off, don't make us cough" banner, and wearing our "pollution patrol" high-vis jackets! This area has a wide pavement and a good background shot of a busy local road.
It would be fantastic if we could have a few more children in the photo. We need to remind motorists that one little girl has already died from the effects of traffic pollution in the borough and urgent action is needed to improve air quality.
Pollution Patrol leafleting For those who can stay on, Camilla will give a brief on how best to approach motorists who are idling in a positive way/avoid confrontational situations.
For the next hour or so, we’ll set off in pairs to cover the shopping streets in the local area with a leaflet which will include some information about air quality and climate change, in addition to links to participating groups.
If you have any further queries, please feel free to call Camilla on 07811 451417.
