Come find about more about Community Energy London (CEL) at this event during Community Energy Fortnight

The event is to be held at City Hall and will launch the findings of a CEL study into London groups, their projects and the key issues faced in developing energy initiatives in London, as well as outlining how London's community energy sector plans to work with the Mayor to help deliver his energy and climate priorities for London.

This event is open to anyone with involvement or interest in community energy. It will be an opportunity to learn about the state of the community energy sector in London, upcoming plans, and about some exciting developments that are underway. A number of workshops on different community energy-related topics will be followed by a drinks and networking session. Selce are involved in CEL as we see it is key to increasing community energy across London to have a network to co-operate with and support other groups and projects. A network of groups has been working together over the past year as Community Energy London, to help share best practice, highlight projects, and raise the profile of community energy in London. If you want to get involved there will be an opportunity on the night to sign up. Please share this event with your network and on Facebook and Twitter

We hope you can make it.

Best regards Community Energy London team http://communityenergy.london/ communityenergylondon@gmail.com @CommEnergyLDN

Background: The Community Energy sector has faced a series of challenging setbacks over the past 18 months as a result of changes made by the Government to a number of support mechanisms. These changes have adversely impacted on plans many community energy groups had on developing projects in their neighbourhoods - projects that would have helped generate renewable energy, alleviate fuel poverty and be largely financed by the local community itself. It all seems a very long time ago since the Government championed the sector, publishing a specific Community Energy Strategy.  London projects have faced additional challenges due to the complexity and cost of delivering schemes in the capital.  Despite this, community energy groups have been resourceful, working hard with a diverse range of Londoners from residents, schools, local councils and businesses, and churches to install renewable energy systems from solar panels to anaerobic digestors and providing energy efficiency advice.  The rapid decline in Government support mechanisms has not dimmed ambitions, with community energy groups becoming even more inventive, looking at opportunities for projects involving energy storage, peer-to-peer energy trading, LED lighting and also renewable heat technologies.
