March/April 2024 update
Mailing List Etc Housekeeping
I've switched from Substack to Buttondown, so if you subscribed to my Substack, that's why you're getting buttondown emails.
I have a bluesky account now, if that's your main social media, but I'm still most active on mastodon.
Zine Month Wrapup
Thank you to everyone who signed up to get a physical copy of Liars, Friends and Troublemakers - you should have received it in the mail by now. Physical copies are no longer available, but the PDF is still free.
I really enjoyed making this, though, and this is probably the scale of Zine Month I'm likely to do in the future.
What I've Been Up To
I made something very quick (and free) for the Door Jamb Door Jam: All The Doors I Could Think Of. Also available as a blog post. Check out the other entries for the jam here.
I finally wrote up what I've been doing with my solo actual play, including playtesting some rough ideas for factions/upgradeable communities, and ways that mundane humans can become demihumans through in-game events.
But first I got derailed playing around with random generators. I set up a third language of randomly generated names (previous ones here, here)
I also created some more thematic lists of Cairn spells for generating NPCs. This is going to turn into a random generator, eventually.
I wrote a blog post about how people get too stressed about GMing called GMing Is Like Organizing a Potluck. Well, I also get stressed about GMing, but I think people talk about it like it's more serious than it is.
Other People's Games
I read through Tidebreak finally, or at least parts of it, and I really enjoyed it. I still haven't played Mothership, but I love the deep sea exploration theme and I'd love for someone to run this for me once I've forgotten what's in the book. It's also a gorgeous book. Not sure if it's available to non Kickstarter backers yet though.
Speaking of Mothership, Resonant is out, by the maker of Tannic.
I love a good depthcrawl, and Xeric Sands looks pretty cool. It's a a work in progress, discounted until it's completed.
The Devil Choked on a Whale is a great collection of sea themed backgrounds and other things for Cairn 2E.
What next
I'm continuing to mostly play around with generators, drafting blog posts, and trying to play more. I don't have any paid (and polished) products planned at the moment, but something might come of all this experimentation.
I'm working on a Cairn lifepath thing that may or may not work out.
Also a random magic user generator based on the .
I am also still not working on A Stolen Sword in a Dark Forest (my incomplete solo module for the A Town, A Forest, A Dungeon jam), but I plan to do so.
