February 2025 Update

Zine month recommendations, and what I've been up to: released more modified public domain art, wrote a blog post about zines, made a web page listing all the blogs I follow, and started working on a train-themed adventure for Knights of the Road.

What I've been up to

Not an enormous amount, due to the state of the world. I was pretty busy in the first few weeks of January, but I never did a January newsletter, and haven't really done anything in February. I'm trying to start again though.

Public domain art

I updated my collection of modified public domain art with a whole bunch of stuff from Gods’ Man. Here are some examples:

A group of people pursue a lone runner

A woodcut of a hand holding up three fingers

A woodcut of a horrified man with his hands outstretched in front of him

The book is public domain as of this year, and is pretty cool on its own. Entirely made of wordless images that tell a story.

NSR camp

I attended NSR camp, and ran a train-based heist game using Knights of the Road, an early 20th century American Dustbowl themed low fantasy ItO based game. I'm probably going to eventually polish up and publish that game, once things in life stabilize.

Blogs

I updated my "webring" to include a list of blogs that I follow, with an emphasis on ones that I think are less famous, and with some attempt at organizing and labeling them. Hopefully this is useful to someone.

I also wrote a blog post about zines and why they matter, as well as a list of blog posts on similar subjects about making room for lower budget, less commercially oriented games.

Zine Month Recommendations

I haven't been doing Zine Month myself, and I realized when putting this together it's rather too late, most campaigns are over. But there are a couple really cool ideas, being done with a small budget, that haven't funded yet and which I hope do.

There's a spreadsheet that may or may not be complete, of the games that are funding here.

Satheru the Mayhem Beast is a solo journaling game about going on an ill-fated maritime adventure. It's being itchfunded, and you can get an early copy of the game immediately.

A solo misadventure about the sea, a monster and dangerous paths 🐉

Orc Astra has been funded, but the goal is so low that it deserves more. It's just two euros to back. It's a PbtA game about being an orc, with kind of A Midsummer Night's Dream fey vibes.

The Devil's Lounge is a two player horror game about dating apps. It's weird, and I think we need more weird games like this. I hope it gets funded - I might take it to Big Bad Con.

What's next

I'm going to finish the train adventure, maybe do crowdfunding and make a physical copy. In the immediate future though I'm mostly trying to get back into things. I might try and get better at art. I'll probably do some more editing of public domain art. I'll try to write more blog posts - I've got a large backlog of half-complete stuff.

End of year ish 2024 update

This has been a quieter year for me in TTRPGs and a much busier year in general, I’m hoping to have more to share in 2025. Over the last two months I had a...
