See Moir Music: Uh February Again?
So many new shows already :o
Is it time to bring this back to every other week? Maybe. Does that mean I shouldn't also post March shows yet? Maybe. I feel like we all need a bit more lead time these days, tho. Let me know!
Also, wowowow the Polo & Pan DJ set at 1015 was great. I'm bummed I didn't get to see Addison Groove but a headache and early morning all day moving plans meant it didn't happen. Seemed like an excellent set! Also seemed like everyone was at Polo & Pan at Billy G on Friday. Didn’t realize they’d gotten big enough to sell that out but here we are.
Where I’ll Be
Fri 2/11 – Jim-E Stack and Jacques Greene (DJ set) at 1015 Folsom
JUST ANNOUNCED and I'm hella psyched. Jim-E Stack's album Ephemera was one of my most-listened-to of last year, and I’m a total Jacques stan at this point.
Wed 2/16 – Caribou at the Fox Theater
You can do it you can do it you can do it you can do it. GA Floor ftw.
Sat 2/26 – Karizma at Monarch
Got a ticket to this show based purely on his single Work it Out, which Jamie xx dropped when he played at OSL. Highly recommend, very much looking forward to this. (His track Nuffin Else is also excellent)
Joy Orbison is one of those artists that I thought had been around for ages but instead just kinda stealth snuck into my awareness. Will hopefully be a chill night, and psyched to support local DJs too.
Fri 3/11 – Franc Moody at 1015
This show got rescheduled finally. Might try to swap my tickets for the show at The Indy, we'll see.
Conflicts and considerations
Sat 2/12 – Oona Dahl at Public Works
Fri 2/18 – Pete Tong at Halcyon
He plays at Halcyon basically every year. I saw him once and it was excellent. He still has his fingers on the pulse of things.
Fri 2/18 – Club Called Rhonda with ??? at Great Northern
This show is full of a LOT of shirtless men, and also books excellent DJs. I missed seeing TEED but caught Jayda G there. Recommended.
Fri 2/25 – Claptone at 1015
Disco party, have fun.
Thu 3/3 – Parcels at the Fox Theater
More disco y'all.
Just announced
Sat 3/12 – Dan Shake at Monarch
Disco brilliance at a really nice venue.
Mon 3/14 – Jose Gonzalez at Fox Theater
Sat 3/19 – Maceo Plex at The Midway
Sat 3/19 – Defected at Halcyon
Lineup TBA, but the Defected Records DJs are super good.
Fri 3/25 – Breakbot and Irfane at 1015 Folsom
You must go to this show. Their new single Remedy is GREAT, and also tickets are only $15. See you there.
Fri 4/1 – Oliver Heldens at 1015 Folsom
Fri 4/1 – alt-j and Portugal. The Man at Billy G
If you wanted to feel the mid 2010s strongly.
Fri 4/8 – LP Giobbi at Great Northern
She's been having a helluva rise since getting discovered by Sofi Tukker, and I enjoyed quite a lot of her Twitch streams. Should be a good show. She also runs a Femme House collective and will be hosting a workshop earlier in the day (it seems).
Sat 4/9 – Duck Sauce, Purple Disco Machine, Chromeo (DJ set), Justin Martin, Bruja, and more at The Midway
Hella stacked. Early bird is already sold out.
Wed 4/20 – Sampa the Great at The Indy
Sampa the Great is great, and this show is very cheap. But I just realized this is a 4/20 show and that is sure to be an added vibe that I won't enjoy, but you might!
Sat 4/30 – Interpol and Tycho (plus Matthew Dear) at the Greek Theatre
Sure to be a great show, but I've seen all these artists before and don't feel super compelled to pay $60+ to see them again.
Sat 5/14 – Le Youth at Audio
I'm v tempted, but ultimately will pass. Put on a really excellent set last summer when I saw him outside at The Midway though.
Thu 5/19 – Cut Copy at Fox Theater
Sun 6/5 – Rex Orange County at the Greek Theatre
Sun 6/12 – Born Ruffians at The Indy
Last saw them at Slim's (RIP) and it was an super fun time with a great crowd. Considering this.
Other notes
Gray Area is putting on a 3 day workshop on performing live with modular synths. Check it out on Sat 3/26, Sun 3/27, Sat 4/2. If you're busy for those dates, you can audit the class and get access to the recordings.
Audium is also doing immersive performances and I have some tickets I won in a charity auction so I'm looking forward to checking those out.
Recent great releases
Amber Mark has a great new album, but I'll still be listening primarily to the Franc Moody remix of her track Lose My Cool.
Jim-E Stack has a nice new single, Next To Me.
HAAi remixed her track with Romy and Fred Again.. and it's better than the original imo.
Shazamming while Dancing
Local DJs Starfari and Femmelectric went b2b opening for Polo y Pan at 1015 this past week and they killed it. Truly such a joy of a set mixing new-to-me excellent tunes with classic heaters like Daft Punk's Around the World, their closing track. Check out this Spotify playlist of my Shazams for most of the tracks, and this SoundCloud playlist for some others.
