See Moir Music: July/August 2021

Delta Delta Delta tho

So many new shows being announced I felt compelled to share.

Where I’ll Be

  • Sat 7/31 — Jacques Greene at a Secret Warehouse Location

    • My second-to-last pre-pandemic show was seeing Jacques Greene play an incredible set at Starline Social Club. Excited to see him again.

  • Fri 8/13 — SNBRN at 1015 Folsom

    • Got pretty into him during the pandemic, with some help from Jess and some fun Twitch DJ sets too. Missed him at the mint pre-pandemic, so rectifying that now.

  • Sat 8/21 — Sébastien Léger and Verlk at Audio

    • Verlk has been playing solid sets for awhile, and Sebastien Leger played an excellent Cercle set, so I figured this was worth it.

Conflicts and considerations

  • Fri 7/23 — warner case at The Broadway Club (Walnut Creek)

    • He's an up and coming producer and I got hooked on his track doyouwannabemine? when it came out, but even that can't get me all the way out to Walnut Creek for this set.

  • Fri 7/30 — Maya Jane Coles at 1015 Folsom

    • I skipped seeing her the last time I had tickets to see her and heard she played an excellent show. But I am not up for b2b nights this soon.

  • Fri 8/6 — Jeremy Olander at Public Works

    • Saw him at an open to close set at Great Northern in 2019. It was a good time, but a little too chill for me to want to go again.

  • Sat 8/7 — KiNK and Femmelectric at Public Works

    • This show will have a great vibe, but I won't be around.

  • Sat 8/7 — Anthony Attalla at Audio

    • Saw him at the Toolroom SF Mint party, and he was excellent and fun.

  • Sun 8/8 — The Knocks at the Phoenix Hotel

    • Pool party with the Knocks is almost more fun than a boat party with the Knocks. They put on an excellent show, but I don't need to see them again.

  • Sat 8/14 — Totally Extinct Enormous Dinosaurs, Roosevelt, and M.Bootyspoon at the Great Northern

    • For an event called a Club Called Rhonda, put on by "LA's pansexual party palace", this lineup and that tagline makes this show very tempting.

  • Tue 8/17 — Small Black at The Independent

    • A fun postrock band that I saw many years ago at a street festival in Chicago.

  • Fri 8/20 — J. Worra at Audio

    • She has some really fun tracks, I got into her during the pandemic as well.

  • Sun 8/22 — Will Clarke at the Phoenix Hotel

    • Pool party with Will Clarke very nearly hops over my post-pandemic impulse bar, but not quite.

After that

  • Fri 11/5 — Booka Shade at Great Northern

    • Also getting tickets to this because yes.

  • Fri 11/26 — Bonobo (dj set) at The Midway

  • Mon 12/20 — Jeff Rosenstock at GAMH

  • Tue 3/8 — Chet Faker at The Warfield

    • Put on a great show as Nick Murphy at The Fillmore. He's gone back to Chet Faker for all of his music now.

  • Thu 3/31 — Clairo at the Fox Theater

Other notes

Wed 7/28 – Thu 7/29 — Gray Area is hosting another iteration of its Modular Synthesizer Workshop, which I recommend. A friend of mine took it and was kind enough to share some of what he learned with me.

Recent releases

  • The new SAULT album is great.

  • Lane 8 did a track with AFI's Davey Havok because sure why not. It's good.

  • Parra for Cuva's new album is out, and it's a great groove for work or for relaxing.

Much like the new Muni trains before they can be put in service, I feel like most of the new tracks being released lately require a bit of a burn in period before they really stick with me. Appreciating the tracks that capture my attention for multiple days more as a result.
