See Moir Music: January 2025
Happy New Year! I'm sure a lot more shows will be announced for February & onward soon, but for now, here's how January is looking...
Quick recap
I didn't go anywhere in December. I hoped to stop by Breakfast of Champions, but I'm still fighting off the end of a bad cold I picked up over the holidays so I've been confined to my couch. Music lately
You can always follow me on bandcamp to see what I've bought latelyβ¦
I spent most of this month digging into the best songs of 2024 according to Said the Gramophone and enjoying these recommendations:
- DEHD - Light On
- Mk.gee - Alesis and the rest of the album
- Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood (the whole album)
- NilΓΌfer Yanya - My Method Actor
- Porches - Bread Believer
- Kacy Hill - BUG
- Rosali - On Tonight
- Madi Diaz - Don't Do Me Good
- MJ Lenderman - She's Leaving You
- Zsela - Still Swing
- Joshua Idehen - Mum Does the Washing
- King Hannah - Davey Says
- Good Looks - If It's Gone
- Katseye - Touch
- Kelly Lee Owens - Higher
- Jorja Smith - High
- Wet - Double
I don't discover a lot of indie rock and similar artists through my typical discovery methods, so this was a good introduction.
Other notes
I wrote up my best of 2024, so click into that if you want to know what my favorite albums, EPs, and tracks of the year were!
After Spotify Wrapped came out, I wrote my annual recap post where I compare the Spotify stats with my Last.fm listening history. I did a big deep dive into the origins of the "music evolution" feature and why I think it flopped (spoilers: not just the layoffs, or AI).
I'm still noodling on a longer post about Will Tavlin's essay about Netflix, Casual Viewing, and Liz Pelly's book excerpt about Spotify, Ghosts in the Machine. Let me know if you want to be a sounding board! Eagerly awaiting next week when her book will arrive on my doorstep!
