See Moir Music: January 2022!?

Happy 2022 I guess, we made it.

I skipped all the madness of NYE parties this year because nothing really sparked my fancy like it did in 2019→2020. Not sure I’ll ever have that energy again, and that’s okay. It was incredible then and I’m enjoying my new pace. I hope those of you that went out got a fresh start or had a breakfast of champions to send you into the new year.

Where I’ll Be

  • Sat 1/8 — Monkey Safari at Public Works

    • The sort of producer that I forget how much I like until I pull up their artist page and realize I listen to a _lot_ of their tracks. Not sure this show will make sense mid-Omicron wave and with early morning weekend plans, but it's a short walk from my place so I might still drop in, N95 and all.

  • Thu 1/13 — Garage Access feat. Dan Frandisco, Wufu, and Nightware at Monarch

    • You might not realize it, but UK garage is excellent. Psyched to check out this UK garage spotlight night featuring local DJs.

  • Wed 2/16 — Caribou at Fox Theater

    • Still holding out hope for a Daphni set around the same time.

Conflicts and considerations

This might just be a light month with Omicron and post-NYE lulls, or bookings are still settling in.  We'll see next month.

  • Fri 1/14 — Will Clarke at 1015 Folsom

  • Fri 1/28 — Robert DeLong at Rickshaw Stop

  • Sat 2/18 — Pete Tong at Halcyon

    • He plays at Halcyon basically every year. I saw him once and it was excellent. He still has his fingers on the pulse of things.

Just announced

Or so.

  • Fri 3/4 — Joris Voorn at Halcyon

  • Tue 3/8 — Chet Faker at the Warfield

  • Sun 3/13 — Franc Moody at The Indy (sold out/rescheduled from Oct)

  • Fri 3/25 — The Knocks at Regency Ballroom

  • Sat 3/26 — Bicep at Regency Ballroom (I’ll be there)

  • Tue 4/19 — Hot Chip at the Warfield

  • Thu 5/12 — Bob Moses and TSHA at the Warfield (I might be there, especially because TSHA)

Other notes

Recent great releases

My release radar this week is a disaster. Flo Rida and Cat Stevens on the same playlist? Oof.

  • Baltra has a new EP out, I haven't heard the whole thing but "will you be?" is catchy.

  • Jacques Greene also has a new single out, Leave Here.

  • Logic1000 put out a new album without me noticing.

Shazamming while Dancing

  • Jayda G had an excellent set at Great Northern, here are my Shazams from the night.

  • Banksia, a local DJ, opened for DJ Seinfeld at The Independent and had a set full of heaters.

Read Moir Music

I haven't written since Spotify Wrapped came out, so check out my yearly wrap-up post of data-driven comparisons between Spotify data, my Last.fm data, and more. Remember: Spotify Wrapped only covers January - October, and an audio aura is even more made up than you think.

I'm planning to post about my favorite albums etc. of the year soon too, so keep an eye out for that.
