See Moir Music: It's May Now
And so month 3 and month 5 begin together...
Tell me, do you still want weekly emails now that the streams are calming down? Do you want me to go back to every-other-week? Are you subscribed to so many email newsletters that you’re lucky if you catch these on time? If you have opinions, just hit reply :)
Where I’ll Be
Sleeping a lot. Keeping up with the livestreams has been tiring. Month three begins soon (I started working from home March 6th, so that’s the date I count this all from) and the onslaught of livestreams is a bit exhausting at this rate.
91+ videos on my quaranstreams YouTube playlist so far, even as I delete them after I watch them. And that’s after “One or more videos have been removed from the playlist because they were deleted from YouTube.” which is a bummer, since I’ve been only adding “legitimate” uploads from the artists or record labels themselves! Maybe there were some copyright claims interfering. Because there are so many videos on it, I don’t even know which ones got deleted. Bummer all around.
Just Announced
if you see a set (recorded or livestream announcement) you think I might enjoy, send it my way! Or don’t, that’s cool too 😂I’ve been digging into a lot of afrohouse, melodic house, and deep house. As one does.
Special Events
Noise Pop is doing “No Place Like Home” events every Tuesday and Thursday, benefitting different local venues each time. It seems like the artists likely choose the venues too, since BOTH is K. Flay’s favorite venue, and next week Geographer is playing to benefit Rickshaw Stop, which he mentioned in an Instagram live session was his favorite venue too.
May 8 – 10 — 1001Tracklists is doing a virtual festival. The only names I recognize are Dezza and Laidback Luke, but will probably be some good opportunities to check out new artists. Some more info on Eventbrite.
Music Most of the Time
These are the ones I attempt to listen to.
Diplo and friends and labelmates on Mad Decent Live on Twitch with music most evenings. Really tho, it’s all about Lazer Sunday.
Boiler Room has been doing streams from isolation.
The Anjuna Twitch channel is hosting occasional streams at awkward-for-the-US times but the replays still exist.
Artist Streams
Other artists are consistently streaming live on their own channels on YouTube/Twitch/Instagram:
Calvin Harris as Love Regenerator (come back to us, Calvin)
Livestream highlights
Qrion’s latest “qriontine” home dj sesh was a delight. Thirstin for a couple non-IDed tracks from her set, might have to message her. One sampled Todd Terry’s track Samba, so that’s all Shazam was picking up, and another sampled a Moodymann set that Drake also sampled. (1.5 hrs, Twitch)
I also checked out Qrion’s set for mau5trap LIVE, different vibe from her usual stuff to be more in line with the more techno-y feel of what deadmau5/testpilot has been doing. (1.5 hrs, YouTube)
Looking forward to checking out
There were fewer this week/end, so I also had less FOMO as a result.
Discovered that Kölsch has been doing several livestreams, all recorded on Facebook. I’ve clearly been asleep somewhere for not catching these until now! (only one is on YouTube):
Kölsch 4 weeks ago (2 hrs, Facebook)
Kölsch 3 weeks ago (1.5 hr, Facebook)
Kölsch 2 weeks ago (1.5 hr, Facebook)
Kölsch about 1 week ago (2 hrs, Facebook)
Kölsch yesterday (1.75 hr, Facebook)
Kölsch unreleased etc. only (1.5 hrs, YouTube)
Another Bobcast with Bob Moses (1 hr, YouTube)
Goldroom put out a SunSets set, looking forward to that too. (1 hr, YouTube)
Robotaki was featured on Foreign Family’s Intermission. (1 hr, YouTube)
Other notes
Recent great releases
Lots of good stuff came out for the Bandcamp fee-waiving day on Friday, such as a couple albums I’m looking forward to checking out:
For the NHS by Hundred Flowers records, featuring tracks by O’Flynn
Unity by Orchid, featuring a track by Bawrut
I made a Buy Music Club list of what I’ve enjoyed recently from Bandcamp, feel free to check out some tracks/EPs/albums now or save ‘em for June 5, the next day that Bandcamp is waiving their cut. Smore for the house. Or you could just find them on your streaming service of choice, you do you.
Also some new tracks by Hayden James, Qrion, and Jerro (played by Lane 8 recently).
I’ve been mostly focused on narrowing my list of tracks to buy from Spotify so I’m admittedly behind on new releases in favor of digging further into those I’ve been discovering from DJ sets.
Shazamming while Dancing
Still keeping my quarandjed playlist updated with my favorites from all the live and recorded streams I’ve been watching. So many.
It’s a total amalgamation of Shazams from: Qrion, TOKiMONSTA, GRiZ, Black Coffee, Diplo, Calvin Harris/Love Regenerator, Kaskade, Manila Killa b2b Hotel Garuda, Louis the Child, Four Tet, Jacques Greene, Juju Le Moko, Sebastian Leger, A-Trak, Samito, Akantu, M.Touré, The Fitness, Luttrell, Rampa, Disclosure, Tinlicker, Moon Boots, HAAi, Pete Tong, Nora En Pure, Sonny Fodera, MK, Duke Dumont, Ape Drums, N2N, MPHD, Banksia, Justin Jay & Benny Bridges, Teh Raptor, Nightware, Hayden James, Wax Motif, Dillon Francis, Jamie xx, Justin Martin, and more all the time.

Because I went on a Shazam deep dive attempting to find the song I Shazammed that led me to pre-order the Rodriguez Jr album Blisss, I also requested my data from Shazam. We’ll see once I get the download, but I want to see:
How has my Shazam behavior changed over time? How has it changed since I’ve spent all my weekends for the past few weeks listening to DJ sets?
What number of songs do I Shazam over time?
How many duplicate songs are there? How many duplicates happen in a short time period (trying to verify an ID) versus with days between them (same song played by different DJs)?
Anything that you’re curious about?
I also intend to dig further into some year-over-year and day-over-day comparisons in my overall listening behavior, to see if the DJ set streams are additive to my usual listening habits over the years, or if the new platforms (YouTube, Twitch, Facebook/Instagram Live) have been supplanting my more “traditional” listening platforms (iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud). I didn’t make the time this weekend to dig into that, but hopefully soon!
Happy Monday, I had the day off today so I treated it like a second Sunday. It was a delight.
