See Moir Music: It's basically February
2022 is a wild ride already
I've been busy but I made it out to the UK garage night. Was overly ambitious expecting myself to be able to do a trail work day, DJ set, and then wake up early to go to a bike race where I'm learning how to be an official. It's almost like I'm back to my pre-pandemic self…
Where I’ll Be
Wed 2/2 – Polo y Pan DJ set at 1015 Folsom
Love a good weekday DJ set that finishes up before my bedtime. They've had quite a few good mixes so I'm looking forward to this.
Fri 2/4 – Addison Groove, Nightware, and others at Monarch
Garage and juke, let's get it.
Wed 2/16 – Caribou at the Fox Theater
You can do it you can do it you can do it you can do it. GA Floor ftw.
Joy Orbison is one of those artists that I thought had been around for ages but instead just kinda stealth snuck into my awareness. Will hopefully be a chill night, and psyched to support local DJs too.
Fri 3/11 – Franc Moody at 1015
This show got rescheduled finally. Might try to swap my tickets for the show at The Indy, we'll see.
Conflicts and considerations
Fri 1/28 – Walker & Royce at The Midway
Fri 1/28 – Sebastien Leger (live synth!) at 1015
I had tickets to see him last year but didn't end up going. Any live show, with _synths_ no less, is sure to be impressive.
Fri 2/4 – Polo y Pan (live) at Billy G
Saw them at Treasure Island, and they were excellent. Can't imagine them in Bill Graham but good for them tackling such a large venue.
Sat 2/5 – Ash Lauryn and others at Monarch
Ash came to my attention during the June 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and she did a lot of extra work that summer especially to raise awareness about Black DJs and racism in the music industry. Excited she'll be playing a show in SF.
Sat 2/12 – Oona Dahl at Public Works
Fri 2/18 – Pete Tong at Halcyon
He plays at Halcyon basically every year. I saw him once and it was excellent. He still has his fingers on the pulse of things.
Fri 2/18 – A Club Called Rhonda with ??? at Great Northern
This show is full of a LOT of shirtless men, and also books excellent DJs. I missed seeing TEED but caught Jayda G at A Club Called Rhonda. Recommended.
Fri 2/25 – Claptone at 1015
Disco party, have fun.
Thu 3/3 – Parcels at the Fox Theater
More disco y'all.
Just announced-ish
March
Fri 3/4 – Carl Cox at The Bridgeyard
Fri 3/25 — The Knocks at Regency Ballroom
Sat 3/26 — Bicep at Regency Ballroom
I'll see you there.
Sun 3/27 – Yuksek and Starfari at The Midway (day party)
French disco house is truly ideal for a day party. I can't make it, but y'all must go.
April
Fri 4/1 – Bakermat at The Midway
Baiana is an INCREDIBLE song and I'd go on the strength of that track alone.
Fri 4/1 – Snakehips on A BOAT
Love a good boat party.
Thu 4/7 – J. Worra at 1015
Wed 4/13 – Disclosure at Billy G
SF gets a large number of artists that follow on from Coachella weekends—before, after, and in between. Keep an eye out. Fred again.. should have a show announced for SF at some point too as a result.
Tue 4/19 – Hot Chip at the Warfield
Sat 4/23 – Adam Port at the Midway (day party)
I'll see you there. The Keinemusik guys are excellent, and I love a good day party too.
Wed 4/27 – HAIM at Greek Theatre
May
Tue 5/10 – Shout Out Louds at GAMH
Wed 5/11 – An Evening With Hrishikesh Hirway and Jenny Owen Youngs at The Indy
I guess the host of Song Exploder also made some music with Jenny Owne Youngs? This will be a multimedia night, should be fun?
Thu 5/12 – Bob Moses and TSHA at the Warfield
Still haven't gotten tickets to this, still vaguely considering it.
Tue 5/31 – Pedro the Lion at The Indy
Later
Sat 6/4 – Hayden James and Cassian at The Warfield
I'll probably get tickets to this. Cassian is great, and Hayden James is too.
Fri 8/19 – Head and the Heart at Greek Theatre
I saw them at the Greek many years ago. It was great.
Other notes
Gray Area is putting on a 3 day workshop on performing live with modular synths. Check it out on Sat 3/26, Sun 3/27, Sat 4/2. If you're busy for those dates, you can audit the class and get access to the recordings.
Recent great releases
Black Coffee put out a DJ mix, For My Dear Friend V and it's great.
Bonobo has a new album, Fragments, and it is very good.
Fred again.. has a new track out with Romy and HAAi and I enjoyed it.
Lane 8 has a new album that I thought was an EP somehow, oops. What I've heard is good, although I'm not sure I could ever tell any Lane 8 tracks apart.
Max Cooper also has a single out, teasing a new album, called Everything.
