95. Travels in the ultraworld
It’s now been more than five years of occasionally writing this newsletter. I missed the fifth anniversary which would have fallen in January sometime. Time flies.
Every episode I gain some new readers, maybe because you changed your email address from a work one to a private one, or maybe someone forwarded you an episode. And every episode I lose some readers.
If I look over a 12 month period it is pretty much slow steady growth, not as fast as it was in the early years, and not as fast as in the early days of Substack. I think this is largely a result of general email and newsletter fatigue rather than any specific platform benefits. Interestingly I still get a few new people who discover the older version over on Substack and they get bumped to the newer, more ethically-aligned Buttondown platform. As it still says in the automated intro, this newsletter really still is just a scratchpad and a way of remembering museum and cultural technology related ideas, and along the way, telling a few nostalgic stories from my past, and introducing you to some new music I’m enjoying.
