Oh boy oh boy, it is Scorpio season, Mercury retrograde, AND Mars is in retrograde all at once, and for some (cough, all), that means right now things feel pretty intense. This isn't an uncommon feeling during Scorpio season - it seems to me that Scorpios are often overlooked, misunderstood, and misrepresented due to their mysterious, emotional and insular nature. Astrologer Alice Sparkly Kat has released an Interview With A Scorpio to help shed some light on the reality of Scorpio life.
Scorpio Season Mix: Gribs
Taking the reigns this month is Gribs - London-based Scorpio DJ and co-manager of the wonderful TT label. Here at Season we have known Gribs for many moons, first meeting in Leeds through our alma mater the Union Music Library and going on to co-host events as part of TT's KIN project in 2018, we have long admired and enjoyed her work. Gribs' mixes and DJ sets always bring something you might not expect, exploring the weird and the wonderful in subtle and nuanced ways. Hot on the heels of her recent Chroma mix comes this brooding, cryptic and effervescent mix, perfect for reflecting on and contemplating the waters of Scorpio season. Listen to the mix here.
Scorpio Self-Care with Bob Ross
That's right - canonical softie and everyone's dad, Bob Ross, is a Scorpio. In fact, he has the same birthday as my mum (happy birthday, mum!). Bob Ross is very sweet, very gentle, and very calm. Scorpios are known for being passionate, and Bob Ross fully embraces his passion, making it his life's work and passing his knowledge and skills onto beginners who just want to paint something. I feel like creativity is a great way to practice self-care right now, and as such I am contemplating reviving my Art GCSE skills and following along with a Bob Ross tutorial... but maybe I won't actually because I am at heart incredibly lazy. More likely I will be lounging around watching youtube videos of acrylic pours, painting with string videos, and the Extreme Beauty series from Vogue to relax my brain by watching talented people make pretty things.
Scorpio Insight
Lorde sadly sings "They say "You're a little much for me/ You're a liability/ You're a little much for me.."/ So they pull back, make other plans/ I understand, I'm a liability/ Get you wild, make you leave/ I'm a little much for everyone..". So for all the Scorpios out there who think you're a little much for everyone (i.e. Lorde if you are reading this) - you aren't! You are an excellent amount of everything.
Frank Ocean asks "Why'd your eyes well up?/ Did you call me from a séance?/ You are from my past life,/ Hope you doing well, bro.". All very pertinent questions, thank you Frank. To me this reads in the assertive voice of a confident Scorpio confirming their own boundaries, wanting to keep the past in the past.
Gordon Ramsey screams "WHAT ARE YOU?" and gets the response "An idiot sandwich...". Here we see a Scorpio knowing that they are the best and thinking lesser of everyone else. Stay true to you, Gordon.
Unoriginal Thought #248912
I know, I know, you're probably sick of hearing this, but Gilmore Girls rules. I only watched it for the first time in 2016 (!) and am now on my 4th or 5th rewatch, and it never gets old. The comfort of these highly strung individuals complaining about their idyllic life and creating drama out of literally nothing is welcome in the darker evenings - I don't want to face the reality of the outside world, thank you very much. There is an especially romantic Luke and Lorelai moment where they are on their first date, reminiscing about the first day they met, and Luke reveals that Lorelai wrote him a fake Scorpio horoscope bullying him into giving her coffee... and he kept that fake horoscope in his wallet... for 8 years.... hoping that one day.... they would fall in LOVE?!?!?! This brand of sultry sexy and sensual crazy is extremely hot and EXTREMELY Scorpio, and I for one love it when star signs come into fictional canon.
Goodnight
Ok, that's all I have in me for writing and thinking this month, and it is my last newsletter of this shitshow of a year. It's been a blessing to connect with you all through words and music and jokes, and has been a Good Computer Activity during a time filled with Bad Computer Activities. Tay & Harv will see you through until the bitter end, and you know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. (My Scorpio rising thinks that is a funny joke but maybe it is just mean? You know I love you guys the most really). Hold your loved ones close, and don't forget to breathe.
All my love,
Hel X
