Welcome, reader, to Pisces Season. The snowdrops, daffodils and crocuses are bursting through the soil to greet us as we tentatively walk into spring. It is raining outside right now as I huddle my hot water bottle close to my body, feeling hopeful for the promise of warmth coming again soon. For reflections, challenges, and guidance through the next month of our lives, I recommend turning to Marissa Malik's always potent horoscopes on gal-dem. Wisdom from a Pisces amongst the chaos and unrest of the world we live in cannot come soon enough.
Pisces Season Mix: dessie
When I think of Pisces people I think firstly of their creativity, secondly of their caring nature, and thirdly of the depth of their wisdom. This month's mix is from Dessie, who perfectly encapsulates this Piscean nature in all she does, but namely in this 45 minute soothing balm of a mix. Dessie explores the experimental while keeping one foot grounded in reality, graciously welcoming us into Spring and the hopefulness of warmth yet to come. A Leeds resident you can often find Dessie around our local favourites, hosting SKIN OUT on Sable Radio, coordinating events over at Wharf Chambers, and sharing her wisdom and experience around training to be a doula, black birth, and holistic healing. Lock in and bathe in the soothing waters of Pisces Season.
We like to party! We like, we like to party!
Thank you to everyone who came to SOUP last month for our SOUP <3 Season: Compatibility Test. We welcomed OSSX for their first ever European set, Manchester superstar Ayy Den blew us all away, and let's not forget the delicious delicacies served up by our own Docterre and TAYSTII. Yes, maybe the ceiling sprung a leak at 3am, but we had the warmest welcome back to throwing parties we could have hoped for - so thank you.
Next up, in our home-town of Leeds, we are hosting the residents of one of the UK's most talented and wonderful DJ crews, Prestige Pak. Join us on 25th March at Wharf Chambers for Off-Season, starring Architect and Lil C, supported of course by Docterre and TAYSTII. Tickets are only £5 so grab 'em while you can.
Q: Would I rather be feared or loved?
A: Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.
This one goes out to my dream man, Michael Scott. For those who haven't watched the office, he's the guy who is the worst and also the best boss of all time. He's so hateable but also impossible to hate. Basically, I love that guy! And it turns out, he's a Pisces. To me, this makes perfect sense. He's always deep in his feelings. He sees the best in people. He's a hopeless romantic. He has a vivid imagination. And above all, he just needs a big hug! Here are some of my favourite Michael moments to illustrate his Piscean excellence.
"I don't care if Ryan murdered his entire family - he is like a son to me."
"Do I need to be liked? Absolutely not. I like to be liked. I enjoy being liked. I have to be liked. But it's not like this, compulsive need to be liked. Like my need to be praised."
"My philosophy is basically this and this is something that I live by, and I always have, and I always will. Don't ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been. Ever. For any reason whatsoever."
"Society teaches us that having feelings and crying is bad and wrong. Well. That's baloney. Grief isn't wrong. There is such a thing as good grief. Ask Charlie Brown."
Take care, and see you for Off-Season: Prestige Pak on 25th March at Wharf Chambers.
Warm love,
Hel X
