Goodbye, 2022
Goodbye, 2022.
And hello to 2023. It's nice to have you here. It's been a weird old year, 2022. Our third pandemic year, and the exhaustion is written upon our faces. But we must hold fast, as there is more to do, and more life to be lived.
Now, onto the current WIPs.
Projects
The Last Magi
For the bulk of the last few months I haven't been posting new pages to the comic. This is largely because I've focused a lot of energy on my boardgame project which I'll write more on below.
It being the summer break where I am off contract, I'll be doing more work on The Last Magi across January, and new pages will begin appearing on the website by the beginning of February. If you haven't already, get up to date.
Solheim: The Abyssal City
This is the boardgame I've been working on for the last few months. It started initially as a solo TTRPG zine that I was going to debut at Christchurch Zinefest, but it blossomed from there and became a much bigger production. I'm currently waiting on the delivery of a physical prototype for further testing.
Testing so far via Tabletop Simulator has been extremely valuable, and it feels like it is reaching a stage where it is a fun game to play and return to. I'm looking forward to doing more testing in February.
Project Visualiser
This small game project is starting to get off the ground, with a funding application I'll be submitting in late January. I don't have a heck of a lot to talk about here, but more will be ready to speak of in February/March once I know whether or not my application for funding was successful or not.
Playspace
It's the end of 2022, so it's time for my top picks in videogames for the year. According to Backloggd, I played 30 games this year. Here are my top 5:
- Pentiment ~ Obsidian Entertainment
- Destiny 2: The Witch Queen ~ Bungie Inc.
- Weird West ~ Wolfeye Studios
- Citizen Sleeper ~ Jump Over The Age
- Tunic ~ Andrew Shouldice
It was a fun year for games, and I'm looking forward to playing more (and hopefully making more) in the new year.
That's about it for now. My plan for this newsletter is to write something and send it out to you roughly once a month. Thank you for joining me!
I hope you enjoy the start of the new year, and I'll see you all in February.
