Scrub Jay Flyer — May 2025

Hello, subscribers.
Looks like April flew past without a Scrub Jay Flyer going out into the world. Did you miss us?
We are still feeling great after the March release of the our first publication in 15 years, Wild Blue Zine volume 2. We will soon share a video recording of the launch event with you, thanks to our friends at CMAC TV, stay tuned.
In the meantime, there’s a little more than two-dozen copies of the zine left in stock, from a limited run of 100. You can buy your copy for $10 on our website if you’d like to support.

Scrub Jay Press at San Joaquin Valley Bookfest
Thanks to the poet Mike Cole, a longtime friend of Scrub Jay Press, our 2010 anthology Yosemite Poets: A Gathering of this Place will be included in the popup book shop at the second San Joaquin Valley Bookfest on May 3.
The popup book shop will be run by the upstart independent bookstore Judging by the Cover, which in the past year has made a home at 1029 F Street in Fresno’s Chinatown. JBTC focuses on books by and for historically marginalized voices, and it stocks a growing number of titles by Fresno writers.
The Yosemite Poets anthology, edited by Bridget McGinniss Kerr, includes poems by Mike and more than two-dozen Central California writers. The book, priced at $15, is dedicated to “Yosemite’s rivers and creeks.”
The bookfest takes place from 8:30 AM to 5 PM this Saturday, May 3 at Fresno City College, inside the Old Administration Building. Admission is free, with a ticket required. The event features 40+ author readings and book signings throughout the day.
Mike will read at 1 PM on Stage 3 (OAB 188) as part of the panel “Adventures and Inspiration from the Sierra.” Also on the panel is journalist and freelance adventurer Carmen Kohlruss; longtime Fresno Bee columnist Marek Warszawski; and Lalit Kumar, author of the poetry collection Yosemite of My Heart (2024).
Ahead of the bookfest, revisit Mike’s reading of his poem “Goat Mountain Sunday” from the anthology, on our Instagram.
