Slow News.

Hey Neighbors,

We’re going camping! And you’re invited.

The end of the year is approaching, the days are getting shorter, and it is time to bask in the gift of togetherness. We’ll be heading to Angel Island the day after Thanksgiving to escape the consumerist trap of Black Friday. An anti Black-Friday Camp Out if you will.

No bikepacking experience is required, the route is beginner friendly, and we are here to make this trip possible for you! It’s going to be two nights of intense fun and joy.

We roll out on November 28th and return to the city on November 30th.

Click below for more information and to sign up! Feel free to send any questions my way, but just know that ALL are welcome. Angle Island Sign Up!

In other news, Scenic Routes has been experiencing a season of intense growth and change. Here are ten things you might have missed if you haven’t popped by the store in a minute:

Lily started working full time (thank god). You’ll see her in the shop, on rides, and at our monthly classes being her cheerful, enthusiastic, sometimes sarcastic self. We are so relieved to have her as a regular member of the team.

I went to frame building school in Squamish, BC with Danielle Schon and came home with a beautifully imperfect frame and lots of new knowledge to go with it.

Jay crashed his fixed gear bike (that he had for three days) and got a concussion. He was deeply sentimental and sappy while recovering, but a few lingering headaches are all that remains from the crash (and maybe a healthy fear of fixies).

We built a new kitchen and are committed to feeding our staff and community home cooked meals every day of the week. If you’re ever waiting for payday to come and are tired of eating leftovers, send us a message and see if we have enough food to fill another bowl. We would love to nourish you.

We started hosting a family bike ride the first Sunday of every month. We meet at 9:00am outside the Conservatory of Flowers and spend a couple hours having good clean fun. Put it on your calendar!

Bennie gained 75 pounds since we got her and is nearly breaking the scale at 95 pounds at 10 months old. She is a bad shop dog but a really good bike dog. We all love and adore her despite her flaws.

Joel is in Hawaii finding his aloha spirit. We are free from Bruce Springsteen and The Bug Club for a week, but he’ll get those records spinning as soon as he returns.

Our volunteer, Beaux, just returned from a bike packing trip in Croatia. Be sure to ask her about it when you see her at the shop!

We have a new coffee maker thanks to our friend Al. It makes ten cups at a time and keeps the pot hot. I miss the ritual of the Chemex, but our lives are better thanks to the mocca master, and offering coffee to our guests got a whole lot easier. Join us for a cup :)

We’re coming up on ONE YEAR of hosting group rides. Thank you all for 12 beautiful months of movin’ our legs and making space to hoot and holler together.

This month’s mechanic’s class is already sold out, but next month we are hosting our second Trail Side First Aid Class.

Join us November 20th to gain the skills needed to take care of yourself and your friends out on a ride. A certified Red Cross nurse will teach us the basics, walk us through a hands on demo, and send us on our way with a basic first aid kit to keep on our bikes.

This Thursday, October 9th, we’re taking our Night Moves Community Bike Ride up Twin Peaks. I’m crossing my fingers for one more month of good weather. We’ll serve hot tea to keep you warm at the peak, and cruise down the hill before the wind chill gets to us.

Meet at 7:15, Roll at 7:30.

Bring a Jacket, your bike lights, and a mug. See you then!

This month’s Day Grooves Community Bike Ride is extra special, my mom is joining us for a beginner mountain bike lesson.

We’ll be taking the dirt from the shop to the beach through Golden Gate Park and practicing our bravery on the most challenging sections.

Sunday, October 26th.

521 Balboa Street.

Meet at 10:45, Roll at 11:00.

We can’t wait to see you for Shredding with my Mom!

Alrighty friends, that’s all I’ve got for you. Stay on the lookout for lots of events as the year comes to a close and inspires closeness.

See you soon,

Ayla
