We're halfway through 2025 - here's the art I've done so far!
~woooaaaah, we’re halfway thereee~
Hi folks! Welcome to my new newsletter! For those of you who don’t know, I ran a monthly-ish newsletter on Substack before, but Substack’s political stances ended up… well, not really being something I can support right now. Luckily I found Buttondown, so let’s give this newsletter a try! And if I move again, sorry in advance.
Since last year, after the passing of my cat, I tried a myriad more art mediums in my grief. There was some weird domino effect which continued into this year. I continued improving portraits, and ended up finishing the tarot deck I set out to do! First time I completed a New Year’s Resolution. Go me!
Anyways. We’re halfway into 2025. I probably can’t show all I’ve done, but let’s see some highlights!
Does anyone remember Buono! like from Shugo Chara? No? Just me? well, they’re Hello! Project idols who sung the endings/openings for an anime called Shugo Chara. I love their songs so much and still know some of their dances. Don’t judge me okay??? Anyways here’s some art I did of them, I also put this on a shirt. Here’s one of my favorite cards I made for my Waking Dream Tarot deck, which you can buy here! I can’t believe I finished this for real. I never finish things, and I expected to procrastinate. Anyways! Yay!I’ve always been enamored with the idea of a TV girl, kind of a “techsona” (similarly, my fursona can be seen in my avatar). I gave her screen a GB aesthetic because, well, I’m a gaymer. You get how it is.Oh ans heeere’s a 3d print of her! I did the modeling and sculpting myself too, in Nomad sculpt. I do want to make a second one that’s maybe larger and has an actual screen!OK, you may be wondering why Darkrai is in the Dashcon ballpit. I am too, honestly. Well first, because it’s Darkrai. C’mon. Second, I’ll be presenting at Dashcon 2 in Toronto on July 5!!! woah!!! I’ll be talking about trans/neurodiverse issues in genetic cancer. They’re doing a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. And well, to further do my part…I’m doing Ballpits-Against-Cancer commissions! If you donate $20 to Dashcon’s fundraiser, I’ll draw you, your OC, your favorite character, your OTP, basically whoever you want* in the Dashcon ballpit. (exceptions apply.) Donate here!Another one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to get into phone photography (which has now also evolved into phone videography). I managed to take a portrait photography workshop and took & edited this picture. I am so proud of it and think I’m well on my way to having a small portfolio by the end of the year!I actually don’t remember whether I did this late last year or early this year. Oh well, I’m still happy with how it turned out. This was through a Domestika course on Kawaii Isometric Rooms. I feel like Domestika is super underrated. I like them a lot more than Skillshare or whatnot. Anywho. Kitty girl.I went to a cat cafe at the beginning of this year and got a shirt that was basically this. But it fell apart after one round in the washing machine. Destroyed, once more I used my grief to do something artistic: i made a shirt of my cats. I may make more. Murphy is in the background, Smurf is spiritually in the background (RIP)Another hobby I’ve been dying to get into has been leatherworking, and well, I did! I made this leather bracelet and I am SO obsessed with how it turned out. I took the class at Artisan’s Asylum in Brighton, MA, and the 201 one will be in August, where we’ll be making a collar. Oooooooh.Continuing my BS with sewable electronics! Yeah! This is a part of a Cresselia cosplay I started. I sewed the collar while bored at my mom’s house during a trip to Houston. I’ve actually still been picking away at the headband, but I’ve been set back by the cloak not turning out how I wanted. Maybe I’ll try to debut it at a con in the fall? Who knows! In continuing my portraits, one of my favorites is of myself. Does that sound vain? I hope not. This picture of myself is like 4 years old but I loved it so much, so… I resurrected it lol. I’m really happy with how this turned out, kind of a pop aesthetic. To cap this off, this is a photo of… somewhere in Romania. A while ago I found out I qualify for Romanian citizenship since my grandfather lived there in Galați, and this year I decided to pursue the citizenship process, woohoo! Even though I don’t need to learn Romanian, I’ve been studying the language and culture of Romania. When all this -vaguely motions to everything- clears up I really want to visit.
Anyways, welcome to my new newsletter! (see what I did there??) I definitely have ideas for essays and other things to share, so hopefully I’ll get on that soon ;) see you next time!
