Many worlds

Neuroses.jpg

I’ll be moving soon, from NJ to… another state. So I’ll be leaving my job at my library. Everyone knew this is going to happen; I have my Master’s now and there’s not a full-time librarian position available. I’m preparing my patrons now. Telling them that I’ll be leaving, I don’t know exactly when, but I will.

Now, I have a following. Like, people tell other people in town about this awesome librarian at the front desk. I’m serious, I’ve had new patrons come in saying “oh *you’re* kelly!” I also have a kid fan club: I get acorns that they pick up, or they color me a picture, or give me hugs. It’s humbling actually. To know that I’ve made a difference in people’s lives. That they feel welcome at the library. To see a cheerful face that says/sings hello to them. That they know I’ll have a book recommendation every time they walk in the door.

I’ll miss them all. Even the problem patrons that apparently aren’t problems with me.

I’m toying with the idea of giving them my substack address. They want to keep in touch with me, ask me for recommendations, or just see how my love life is going.1

Which means I probs need business cards for realz.

Currently Playing: Baldur’s Gate 3

Oh yes. First play through. Still in Act 1. Playing as Karla and about to romance the Gith. (IYKYK) And just like when I play D&D irl, I have no concept of spell or action management. Nor do I save as often as I should.2

Currently Reading: Still re-reading Kushiel’s Dart

Ah, epic fantasy that’s super sexy. That somehow isn’t raunchy. I guess depending on what people’s definition of raunchy is. It’s kinky. I love it. I rarely re-read books, but so far this is holding up after 20 years.

Trying to figure out a format here like I’ll remember to keep to it after a while. I can’t even update in a timely manner.

MOON PEOPLE!!!

Brevity this is not. Glorious use of commas and semicolons! I want to see this rewritten via the AP style guide. Or in the style of the Sunday New York Times Magazine long-form essays.

The amount of science that the New York Sun assumed its readers knew! Could you even imagine that today?! (Granted, most people were illiterate and this was only written for the affluent and educated white man.)

Pair this with the stuff China has found on the dark side of the moon. There’s also apparently something that looks like a “hut,” and I just want them to find a monolith.

Someone talk me out of getting a second master’s degree. please. not until I at least have either a full-time job with benefits or someone who wouldn’t mind paying for everything while I work part-time.

If I had enough discipline and less ADHD, I’d try to write for a living. And by “write for a living”, I mean this newsletter. Perhaps goals.

1

It’s a thing. They care. They are protective of me. They will get a mob to hunt down the one who would hurt me again.

2

Also like real life.

heart,

kelly
