In Where Your Narrator Is Quarantined;
or, Alpha Beta Gamma Delta Epsilon Zeta Eta Kappa Lambda Mu Nu Xi Omicron
I learned the Greek Alphabet Song when I was understudying for APO. I tried looking for the version that I know, that I was taught, but instead, I found this:
The version I know was meant to be sung in a round. Each person coming in after the first line that ends with Eta.
Also apparently the Nu Iota cast hasn’t been active since 2012.
Instead, a white Christmas eve and I go to get a PCR test in the next town over to tell me one way or another that I’m sick like my roommate is already. If I test negative, I go back to work on Monday. At least this test is a drive-thru so I can stay in a warm car.
Over the course of the past few weeks, I’ve taken out about 20 (TWENTY) books from the library. Mentally preparing myself for a lockdown. Or because I was really hoping I’d have the energy to read and catch up on my reading goal for the year. And they are all interesting! Because I’m interesting! (right?)
Currently Reading:
A History of Wild Places by Shea Ernshaw.
It’s one of those books that hopped on my radar from a BookRiot list. It’s a story in where a missing person gets lost looking for another missing person in a creepy commune-type town. Secret creepy hijinks ensue. As it does in these types of novels. There’s enough variation to the tropes that it’s enjoyable and I’m not quite sure where it’s going.
To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara.
An advance reader’s copy. And while I haven’t read their other books, they are on my to-read list (along with 5000+ other books). It’s compulsively readable. It’s about 800ish pages and huge but I’m flying through it when I have enough energy to focus on something heavier than a horror novel. It comes out Jan 11th, 2022 and I do recommend it if literary fiction is your cup of tea.
Currently Watching:
HOLY MOTHER OF DRAGONS DO I LOVE THE AMAZON ADAPTATION OF THE WHEEL OF TIME. Upping the ages of the characters seems to mean that there’s less teenage boy brooding. Although, I’d rather not have Mat as tragic as he is, give me the prankster that’s in the books. And there seems to be little actual reason for why Fain seems to be following the group. (Even though in the book there is.) Same with the Lan/Nyneve dynamic.
But all the side stuff. The way we understand Lan and Moraine’s relationship better than the books ever explained. Or the other little things that get fleshed out (no pun intended here) that adds to the world as a whole. I have other thoughts, about the prophecy of the Dragon Reborn and how it’s literally NOT TALKED ABOUT. But that’s about as much as I can say without spoilers.
Currently Listening:
There’s actually so much music that’s missing here, but one can only do so much to recreate an old itunes/ipod playlist that one has been curating for over a decade.
My goal is to have a place where I can share all the stuff I’d normally text people. All those links that I’d think you’d enjoy. To have those conversations that I haven’t had over the past few years. I’d like to at least send this out every Wednesday or Sunday, but I’ve never been good with dates and times.
Be well out there.
heart,
kelly
