Off the Ground & Running
The Richmond People’s Budget officially kicked off last week with a crowd of over 100 people at the historic Abner Clay Park in Jackson Ward. One quote resonated from the speakers. “City Council has fully supported this project. A commission of residents from around the city designed the process. Now it is in the hands of the community to make the project a success for Richmond.”

Final Thoughts - Dare to Imagine the Possibilities
Imagine a Richmond where our community dreams take shape. Across the country, participatory budgeting has transformed neighborhoods, and we have the power to do the same right here in our city. We are proud to be the only active city in Virginia with a Participatory budgeting process.
In Durham, Cycle 1 of their participatory budgeting process brought to life a safe and welcoming Third Space for Trans Youth, providing a vital haven and support network. New York City's Cycle 3 used $200,000 to turn a vacant lot into a vibrant new park, proving that even modest investments can create beautiful, lasting change. Meanwhile, in Boston, over 1,000 community-submitted ideas led to the creation of dog parks, new public transit connections, and dynamic third spaces for youth.
Richmond, it’s time to dream big. Our participatory budgeting process gives us the opportunity to turn our ideas into reality. With your input, we can shape our city's future. Together, we can create a Richmond that reflects our community’s hopes and dreams. We have the opportunity to bring creative ideas to our city, with our money and our votes.
