Project Updates
"You have to work hard in the dark to shine in the light." - Kobe Bryant
Last cycle We The People proposed and selected 33 projects to be built throughout the city. At the time of writing this newsletter we have 3 projects completed.
The PB Staff cannot take credit for any of this phenomenal work - but as Richmonders we can all take pride in seeing community led projects come to life.
We'll be doing site visits throughout the Summer and Fall documenting each project’s execution. Below you’ll see our very FIRST project update reel. These reels will be shared to our socials. So make sure you follow us (Instagram & Facebook).
Project: Plant Trees in Northside
Budget: $45,000
Status as of this newsletter: Complete
Annual Commission Workshop

The Participatory Budgeting Steering Committee met on June 13 at The Shockoe Institute to workshop how the PB process could be strengthened. Some of the things discussed included -
A change in the commission makeup
A new timeline for the process
Suggestions for making each phase better
Take a look at the meeting minutes below!

RVAPB x NYCCEC Learning Exchange
Our good friends at The People’s Money invited the staff to come shadow them during the voting phase of their FOURTH cycle! So, obviously, we took them up on the offer. This was a phenomenal opportunity for us to learn first hand how this team has been able to scale their program. Last cycle they collected OVER 100,000 votes and distributed $5,000,000 to community orgs!!!
Some of the things that we were able to study from our trip
How they have centered Equity in their process and evolved it over the years
How they have deep hyper-localized engagement through community organization partnerships
How they capture votes digitally and physically
