Burnout /ËbÉrnËÉĘt/
Have you ever felt stressed, overwhelmed, and without energy? I know I have and although at first I wasn't familiar with the concept of being burned out now it's something I try to identify and prevent.
Burnout, also written as burn-out, is "fatigue, frustration, or apathy resulting from prolonged stress, overwork, or intense activity." It comes from the verb phrase to burn out, "to burn until fuel is exhausted.â By the mid-1900s, this was metaphorically extended to burn (oneself) out, or âto exhaust oneâs energy, ideas, etc., through overwork."
Would you like to learn more about burnout and the brain?
Check out Alexandra Michel's article on APS (Association for Psychological Science).
There's also a great sketchnote on burnout if you prefer something more visual.
Last, but not least, remember that burnout is not your fault and it's not a sign of weakness, nor evidence that you are any 'less than others.'
A warm cup of freshly brewed coffee fills my heart. This wasn't always true though. I used to dislike coffee and would barely drink it if it wasn't for my Moma's cafe con leche.
With time my palate matured and I began to enjoy coffee in all its greatest forms.
So, I'm happy to share one of my favorites, BiciCoffee. Their coffee is as amazing as their project. They have taught me so much about what goes on behind their coffee and all the people involved in the process. I encourage you to check them out and follow them for all things coffee.
⢠"Season 2 lets the script drive the action, using the lush visuals to flesh out and add details to the narrative. These stories are more interested in where each new world lies within its story, not where each story exists in the world. Take, for example, the shortest episode of the season, âAnd All Through the House.â Though itâs only five minutes long and only has a few lines of dialogue, the quasi-horror story is the takeaway, not the stop-motion animation. The house is the backdrop, not the subject." (Inverse)
Love, Death & Robots is now streaming on Netflix.
⢠"Replika was created with such people in mind who do not have the privilege or resources to have a safe space that allows them to talk freely.
Powered by artificial intelligence, Replika claims that it is more than just the average chatbot companion that you can find in the market (Think about the chatbots you see on government websites or makeup online stores). It is one that they are confident users can âform an actual emotional connection with,â so long as the user themselves take the time to interact with it." (AlgoTech)
"Ultimately, Chicory lets players pour as much love and soul into making it their own as the developers have, and I can't think of many other games that allow for that kind of relationship with their audience.
It's a lovely, heartfelt game, and one whose story really resonated with me. It's hard to say whether you'll feel the same way, and there will no doubt be some who think it's worthy with a capital W. But for me, it's up there with your Rokis, your Spiritfarers and your Necrobaristas.
It's an ode to self-expression, and that's something worth singing about." (Rock Paper Shotgun)

I want to dedicate this bulletin to every educator and learner who has struggled or is struggling with mental health.
It takes true bravery to share our story of mental health and ask for help. Even though we have more resources today than before, stigma can still make this conversation impossible for some.
Please know that your feelings are valid, and your story is important. I see you and want you to know that you're not alone. I have a story, too.
