Neurodiversity /ˌnʊər.oʊ.dɪˈvɝ.sɪ.t̬i/
Neurodiversity is defined by Dictionary.com as “the variation and differences in neurological structure and function that exist among human beings, especially when viewed as being normal and natural rather than pathological.”
“It is an umbrella term that encompasses neurocognitive differences such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, Tourette’s syndrome, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, intellectual disability, and schizophrenia as well as ‘normal’ neurocognitive functioning, or neurotypicality.” (ASAN)
“A neurodiversity perspective stresses that “everyone has a different mind, a different way of being,” and that we should not “suppress these differences [but] accept and support them”
Increasing neurodiversity entails accommodating neurocognitive differences and acknowledging, including, amplifying, and celebrating the valuable perspectives of neurodivergent individuals.” (ASAN)
In Real Life by Cory Doctorow (Illustrations by Jen Wang)
“In Real Life is a sensitive, thoughtful look at adolescence, gaming, poverty, and culture-clash.” (macmillan)
I didn’t know much about the plot when I picked up this book, except it was video game-related. While reading it, I couldn’t help but feel hope. Many things are unjust in the world, and it can be overwhelming; still, we can always imagine more just ways of doing things.
• She-Ra and the Princesses of Power by Noelle Stevenson
“For people who didn’t see themselves in cartoons when they were kids, it feels like a show many of us wish we’d had growing up. It’s also a fantastic homage to the original — a coming of age adventure about a girl finding her destiny via magic sword, with rainbow metamorphosis and all.” (Vox)
• “Lockcard is a researched-backed app that leverages notifications to quiz you and help you retain new English vocabulary better over time.
Search a word in our dictionary. Go back to your busy life. Receive a quiz notification for that word. Test your memory from the lock screen. Repeat until you master it.” (Lockcard)
“Beat Saber is a VR rhythm game where you slash the beats of adrenaline-pumping music as they fly towards you, surrounded by a futuristic world.” (Steam)
Dancing has never been my forte. It just triggers my anxiety to new levels. As a Latinx person, people sometimes expect me to know how to dance. Newsflash: I don’t, and I’m okay with that. However, I do enjoy movement and Beat Saber has become my go-to place for just that. Now, I’m a Jedi, not a dancer.

You see a cluttered desk. I see an organized mess.
People have made judgments about my clutter and criticized me for it. Some people have assumed that I’m lazy or disorganized when neither is necessarily true.
A lot of this criticism came from a lack of knowledge, which is why I want to take a moment to share that October is ADHD Awareness Month. You may be aware that ADHD exists, but do you know exactly what it is? The more you learn the more you know.
